Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Paws At Play offers several training programs. Behavior Modification is conducted at the client’s home, focusing on assessing and addressing unwanted or aggressive behaviors like resource guarding, aggression, leash reactivity, fearfulness, anxiety, and excessive barking. This training aims to build correct relationships between dog and owner.

The “Boarding with Manners Training” is a 14-day all-inclusive program where puppies learn foundational manners in a home environment, including sit, down, place, no pulling on leash, come, off (no jumping), wait at doors, leave it, drop it, and dog socialization. It includes a 90-minute in-home lesson on go-home day and a 2-hour follow-up lesson at the facility. A 7-day follow-up program is also available. All training is praise-motivated and positive reinforcement-based.

Group classes include “Beginner Obedience Group Class” for dogs 6 months and up, a 6-week course covering basic commands like sit, down, stay (place), threshold wait, walking without pulling, come when called, wait for food, drop it, leave it, name recall, off command, and fun tricks. “Puppy Social and Introduction to Obedience” is a 4-week class for puppies 12-20 weeks, covering potty training, crate training, proper social interaction, no jumping, bite inhibition, wait for food, sit, and solutions to common puppy behaviors. “Puppy Obedience” is a 6-week course for puppies 5-8 months, teaching sit, down, place, wait, drop it, leave it, social interaction, no jumping, bite inhibition, wait for food, and fun tricks. All group classes are limited to 6 teams and include homework instructions.
