Testimonials

Absolutely love Pawsitive Beginnings. From the 1st meeting where Ace met Lateria it has been awesome. Ace is excited every time we pull into the community. Every pupcation has been well rewarded and we have not had a single worry. His behavior after working Lateria has been amazing. She has also shared and taught us on steps to continue to improve his behavior when needed. We got Ace as a rescue dog in 2020 when he was one. We tried using other pet hotels and they all said Ace was aggressive or they had to do extra to have him behave. Day one with Pawsitive Beginnings there was a relationship of trust and fun that was established, and Ace absolutely loves training and staying with Pawsitive Beginnings. They are thoughtful, caring, knowledgeable, patient and very aware of the Aces and our needs.

I can not speak highly enough of Lateria with Pawsitive Beginnings. Due to her and her patience I was able to keep my family together. She helped train my two older dogs to respect space and boundaries when I had a newborn. Now my son and Bennett have the best relationship.

I wish I could add a before and after video of how this dog used to walk on a lead. Before he would pull like a mad man and now my almost two year old can walk him with supervision

We have loved our experience with Lateria! She is so knowledgeable and was able to provide so much guidance while we trained our 3 year old lab mix rescue. She was a stray and had so much anxiety which came out in a multitude of behavior issues. Lateria guided us through some intensive training and helped us sign up for Doggie University. I’m so happy with the results! Deana has much better manners because Lateria taught her (and us!) some great coping mechanisms for her stress. Thank you!

About the Trainer

Pawsitive Beginnings Dog Training is a locally owned business serving dog owners in Durham, Raleigh, and the surrounding Triangle area. Founded by Lateria in 2016, the company offers personalized dog training that avoids shock collars, clickers, and excessive treats, focusing instead on organic communication between dog and owner. Services include private in-home and public leash training, structured dog walks with built-in behavior reinforcement, and drop-in backyard visits. They also offer specialized programs like Pupcation (overnight training stays) and the PAWLISH-up Course (behavior evaluation and foundational training). Lateria trains all breeds, ages, and temperaments, including rescue dogs, fearful dogs, and working breeds, with a focus on building long-term trust and consistency.

In addition to training, Pawsitive Beginnings provides dog walking, pet sitting, and day care services. Their walk packages include optional pack walks for socialization, and drop-ins offer 30 minutes of supervised, purposeful outdoor time with light training reinforcement. All services are designed to reinforce training goals and maintain progress between sessions.

The business emphasizes a no-shock, no-clicker, minimal-treat approach to create sustainable, owner-led behavior change. Lateria is certified in Pet CPR and has experience with a wide range of behavioral issues including separation anxiety, leash pulling, reactivity, and house training.

Accomplishments

Lateria, the founder and trainer, is Pet CPR certified and has developed a unique training method based on personal experience with her own rescue dog, Peaches. She has successfully trained rescue dogs, fearful dogs, and multi-dog households, with documented success in resolving aggression, anxiety, and leash reactivity issues.
