Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Pawz Away Pet Care offers several training programs. Group Classes, lasting 5 consecutive weeks for approximately one hour per session, include Puppy Kindergarten for pups aged 8-16 weeks, covering socialization, crate/potty training, boundaries, and basic obedience. Basic Manners classes are for dogs 17 weeks and older, teaching cues like sit, down, stay, come, leash walking, and preventing jumping.

Behavior Modification addresses issues such as over-arousal, mouthing, fear, anxiety, aggression, and excessive barking. This program begins with a behavior questionnaire and an initial consultation, which can be held at their facility or in your home, to develop a customized training plan. Private Training is available for follow-ups to behavior modification or as a stand-alone service for basic obedience skills like sits, downs, stays, recalls, and leash walking without reactivity. These 1-hour sessions can be conducted at their facility or in your home and include a follow-up email with a session summary and training plan.

Doggie Day School is a 4-week program, with dogs attending two days per week. This hands-off approach involves trainers working with each dog multiple times daily, interspersed with enrichment activities and group play. The program concludes with a 1-hour private lesson for owners to learn how to maintain their dog’s new skills. The Board & Train program is their most immersive offering, ideal for clients preferring a completely hands-off approach. Dogs stay at their facility for a minimum of two weeks, where trainers work on basic cues and behaviors. This program also includes a 1-hour private lesson for owners to learn maintenance techniques and requires an evaluation to ensure suitability.
