About the Trainer
Peninsula Dog Obedience Group (PenDOG) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization run entirely by volunteer instructors. They offer group dog training classes at their private facility in Kenai, Alaska, focusing on building strong human-dog relationships through positive, skill-based training. Classes include Obedience, Puppy Kindergarten, Family Dog Manners, Agility, Barn Hunt, Scent Work, Rally, Trick Dog, and Canine Good Citizenship. All class fees go toward rent and utilities, keeping costs affordable. PenDOG provides ongoing, weekly classes with no fixed start or end dates, allowing flexibility for dog owners. Their facility is open for member use outside class hours, and members receive discounts on classes and access to a library. They welcome all dog breeds and sizes, including senior and special-needs dogs, and emphasize safety, community, and fun.
PenDOG has been serving the Kenai Peninsula since 1989 and is one of Alaska’s oldest dog training clubs. They offer niche sports like Barn Hunt and Scent Work, which are not commonly found in typical training centers. Their instructors are experienced volunteers with deep knowledge in their respective disciplines, and many have trained dogs for over a decade. The club fosters a supportive, inclusive environment for families, competitive handlers, and casual pet owners alike.
Accomplishments
PenDOG is the first Alaskan club affiliated with the United Kennel Club (UKC) in 1990. They hosted the first Canine Good Citizenship test in the region in 1990. The club has been active for over 35 years and has trained generations of dogs in obedience, agility, and scent sports.
