Testimonials
“This is a great place to help a dog owner and a dog communicate better. I am in the PUPPY CLASS with my new puppy, BONGO. He and I have learned a lot. Great teachers and environment. Everything is so friendly. I highly recommend this place if you want to have a better life with your dog.”

“Friendly helpful instructors and the cost for an 8 week class is less than or equal to a 6 week class most other places.”

“What a wonderful place for dog owners to be trained. Clean facility. Well organized and taught by volunteers. Extremely knowledgeable and fun! I was going to take my puppy and enroll in the manners course for our first session, I was politely guided to take the puppy course first even though we were over the age mark and my pup knew the basic commands, but NOT the in depth version that you need to be successful. We completed the puppy class first and I’m so glad we started with that!”

About the Trainer
Peoria Obedience Training Club (POTC) is a nonprofit, volunteer-run dog training organization serving dog owners in Peoria, Illinois since 1946. They offer group training classes in obedience, agility, flyball, conformation, rally, freestyle, and scent work, all held in a climate-controlled, ADA-accessible facility with rubber matting, free parking, and outdoor exercise areas. Classes are taught by experienced volunteer instructors, including AKC judges, professional handlers, and competition champions. POTC emphasizes positive, skill-based training methods and provides structured 8-week courses for puppies, manners, obedience levels, and advanced disciplines. Membership is required for some advanced classes, but guests are welcome to observe. The club also hosts AKC, UKC, and TDAA trials and events throughout the year.
POTC’s instructors tailor training to individual dogs and owners, offering guidance on selecting the right program—even recommending a puppy class over a manners class for dogs with foundational gaps. The facility supports dogs of all sizes and ages, with specialized classes for puppies as young as 8 weeks. All instructors are volunteers, ensuring a passion-driven, community-focused approach to training.
Accomplishments
Club has been operating since 1946 (75+ years). Instructors include AKC judges, professional handlers, veterinarians, vet techs, kennel managers, and top competitors in obedience, agility, and flyball. Many conformation champions began training at POTC.
How to Get Started!
Prospective clients must wait for registration night (e.g., Monday, January 12 for next session) to sign up. Classes fill quickly. Guests are welcome to observe classes before enrolling. For agility classes, pre-approval via email is required.
