Two years ago I purchased a basic obedience class package for my goldendoodle puppy. The trainer, Felicia, is very knowledgeable and super approachable. We did the puppy package which I highly recommend for any new pup, young or older. This is where they will learn basic commands. The trainer is really teaching you the material whilst interacting with your pet. IT’S UP TO YOU to follow through and do the homework with your dog until the next session where a new command is introduced.
I wouldn’t go any further than the first two packages because the next one’s are a rehash of previous lessons with a little new material added. Also I highly recommend doing one in one, not group. You’re going to pay the same price either way, but you and your dog will get less individualized instructions. If you want your dog to train to alongside others, then do that beginning with the second package. Although Felicia, the trainer follows a curriculum, she is flexible and will address other issues you might be having with your dog — that’s a bonus. Some dogs are more advanced or have other areas needing to be addressed at the time of enrollment. Many programs strictly adhere to a curriculum, Felicia follows the curriculum, but also offers her professional advice regarding other concerns. The dog training is good but not a “Good Citizen Pup” program. It’s a good starting point, but if you’re looking to train them for more than being “a pet”, I recommend doing the first puppy command package, then enrolling in a “Good Citizen” program offered elsewhere especially if they are going to be a working” Therapy Dog”.
