Testimonials

“What’s the process? We believe that the best results of our training start with a meaningful conversation at a deeper level. Because, the training we do is not just about ‘fixing’ the problems for humans, it is also about making profound changes in the dog so they don’t have to behave the way that gets them in ‘trouble’. In other words, we care about connecting with YOU and build the trust on both sides.”

“After working with three other dog trainers, we found Sunghee and never looked back again. Her patient and calm style works really well with our frisky and anxious Havanese. Her methods are very different from most dog trainers but they are really genius and simple ways to see lasting change. I love that she does a combo of working with us, because we obviously need help as parents, but she also works one-on-one with our pup so that you have a good base to work off of. I also love how excited he is every time he sees her or even hears her name 🙂 We highly recommend her to any frustrated pup parent!”

“We adopted two year-old pups from a shelter in the South. They were energetic and supposedly ‘pals’ but fought angrily with each other. After a week in our house we called a trainer who taught us some commands. But the fighting and out-of-control behavior and messing in the room we had them in made us regret having them and we considered giving them back. Fortunately my husband found Placid Paws and immediately we were relieved. The philosophy is to calm and change behavior so the dogs control themselves. The training videos and other options like visits and zoom classes made a huge difference in just a few weeks. We never thought the pups could be loose in the house, but they are now. Sometimes they get zoomies but we can control that. They are so loving and affectionate, we can’t imagine life without them, and we have Placid Paws to thank for that.”

About the Trainer

Placid Paws Dog Training, led by owner and trainer Sunghee Kim, offers a compassionate, emotion-focused approach to dog training based on the Training Between the Ears (TBTE) system. Rather than focusing on obedience commands to control behavior, Sunghee helps dogs regulate their emotions to naturally reduce problematic behaviors like leash pulling, reactivity, separation anxiety, and resource guarding. Her methods prioritize calming the dog from the inside out, using reward and relaxation strategies to build confidence and resilience. She works with dogs of all ages—from puppies to seniors—and provides both in-home and virtual coaching sessions. Sunghee holds a Master’s degree in Animal Behavior and is a certified TBTE practitioner, bringing science-backed, humane techniques to every session. Clients appreciate her calm demeanor, personalized attention, and the lasting emotional transformation she helps achieve in both dogs and their owners.

In addition to 1:1 coaching, Placid Paws offers an online learning library with training resources and live weekly classes for active clients. Sunghee also provides free initial phone consultations to help dog owners understand their dog’s needs and explore training options. Her services are tailored for families seeking long-term behavioral change, not just quick fixes, and she emphasizes healing and connection over control.

Sunghee is deeply committed to compassion for animals, people, and the environment, and her training philosophy reflects a belief in creating positive change for all living beings. She serves clients in New Hope, Newtown, Doylestown, and surrounding areas, and her approach has helped families rescue dogs, manage anxiety, and enjoy peaceful coexistence with their pets.
