Prairie Wind Kennels offers several training programs. Their Field Trial and Hunt Test program specializes in young dog foundation work, from puppy to transition, covering obedience (heel, sit, here), force fetch, 3-handed casting, collar conditioning, introduction to birds, and development of marking skills on land and water.
The Gun Dog Program is a 3-month program with four phases: obedience work (heel, sit, here), force fetch, collar conditioning, steady to shot, and introduction to ducks and pheasants. This program also includes training the owner to be a team with their dog.
They also provide a four-week Obedience Training program for all breeds, focusing on foundational commands like heel, sit, and here, aiming to make dogs controllable and better family members.

Prairie Wind Kennels strives to meet and exceed expectations for various interests, including hunting, field trials, hunt tests, or simply developing a well-mannered family dog. Their training programs are tailored to meet individual needs and goals, based on a successful and proven program and extensive training grounds.
They train on 1000 acres in Wyoming and 4000 acres in Texas, allowing dogs to become acclimated to various hunting situations. The facility welcomes owners and their dogs to visit.
Specialized programs include Field Trial and Hunt Test training, a Gun Dog Program, and a general Obedience Training program. They also offer South Dakota Pheasant Hunts, which include guiding, dog handling, lodging, meals, sporting clays, shells, and bird cleaning, where your own dog is welcome.
Accomplishments
Prairie Wind Kennels’ training programs are based on the experience gained from working for two of the best dog trainers in the country, both of whom have trained National field champions. Previous students from their gun dog program are noted to work in pheasant hunting lodges in South Dakota and duck and goose blinds in several states.
