- ✓ Balanced Training

- ✓ E-Collars
Prairiefire Kennel’s Obedience Training program is designed for family companions, teaching dogs to be good citizens. This program takes approximately 8 to 12 weeks to complete and covers commands such as Heel, Down, Kennel, Sit, Here, and Place.
The Basic Retriever Training program serves as a foundation for more advanced gun dog or Hunt Test training, taking about 4 months to complete. Dogs learn obedience commands like Sit, Here, Heel, Down, Kennel, and Quiet, along with whistle commands. This program includes conditioned retrieve training, teaching Hold, Drop, and Fetch, and conditioning to an electronic collar. Dogs are introduced to birds, decoys, boats, dog stands, and hunting blinds, becoming a “started gun dog” upon completion.
Advanced Retriever Training extends a dog’s skills to multiple marks (triples and quads) in challenging cover and terrain, at longer distances, and includes advanced blind retrieves. This program is suitable for retrievers intended for advanced Hunt Tests or as fine-tuned finished gun dogs, requiring a minimum of 6 months after completing Basic Training.

About the Trainer
Prairiefire Chesapeakes is a dog training business run by TJ and Lori, a couple originally from western Nebraska who share a deep love for dogs and hunting. TJ has a background in training labs for hunting, while Lori has always been fond of pointers.
They established their own kennel and training space, Prairiefire Kennels, in the Fall of 2021, after TJ gained experience as a Kennel/Training Assistant at Wind Wagon Retrievers in McLouth, KS. They emphasize raising their own dogs as family members, providing one-on-one attention from the start.
Prairiefire Kennels offers comprehensive training programs including Obedience Training for family companions, Basic Retriever Training as a foundation for gun dog or Hunt Test training, and Advanced Retriever Training for high-level competition or finished gun dogs. They also operate as dog breeders, specializing in AKC and UKC registered Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and offer stud services.
Accomplishments
Kimber, one of their dogs, achieved AKC show titles and HRC hunting titles, including Select Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex at the 2016 Chesapeake Bay Retriever National Specialty. Moses, their male dog, holds the title of GRHRCH (3) CH Great Lakes The Deliverer MH and achieved Grand Hunting Retriever Champion in 2021 (Spring and Fall International Grand Passes) and 2023 (Spring International Grand Pass).
TJ has served as a Kennel/Training Assistant at Wind Wagon Retrievers. The owners emphasize their journey of developing their training techniques and knowledge of all hunting breeds.
