Premier Gundogs Training Kennel offers comprehensive gun dog training programs tailored to bring out a dog’s natural hunting instincts and build confidence. Their approach is based on time-tested, low-pressure methods, with programs customized by age, hunting type, and desired training level.
The core offerings include Foundation Puppy Training for all gun dog breeds, which focuses on building a love for birds, acclimation to gunfire, and confidence in hunting environments. This foundational work is considered essential for all subsequent training, teaching pups where to hunt in various covers like food plots, CRP, and brome. Gunfire is introduced only after the pup shows confidence with birds.
Specialized programs include Retriever Training (Started through Finished for Dove, Upland, and Waterfowl), Spaniel Training (Started through Finished for Dove, Upland, and Waterfowl), and Pointing Dog Training (Started through Finished). The Spaniel Training Program, developed over 50 years, progresses through Foundation, Formal, and Advanced phases to develop well-rounded spaniels for upland, waterfowl, dove, or hunt testing. Upland Hunting Retriever Training focuses on teaching quartering, tracking, flushing, retrieving, and hunting dead, exposing dogs to various hunting grounds. Pointing Labs training uses methods similar to pointing dog training, emphasizing holding point and steadiness to wing and shot, with the option to compete for Certified Pointer titles.
For Waterfowl Hunting Retrievers, Formal Training (Started Level) involves conditioned retrieve commands (“Fetch, Hold & Out”) and collar conditioning, applied to single mark retrieves in realistic mock waterfowl hunts. This stage prepares dogs to pick up ducks and geese at distances, accustomed to calling, marking off the gun, and steadiness. Advanced Level training builds finished waterfowl dogs capable of blind retrieves, hunting from duck boats, ground force blinds, and stands, and handling multiple marks. Obedience, including whistle and leash work, is also integrated into the foundation training.
