Puget Sound K9 Academy

Puget Sound K9 Academy offers a variety of training programs. The Puppy Class, for dogs 8 weeks to 6 months, covers management, engagement, basic commands (look, sit, down), collar grab, potty training, crate training, leash training, proper manners, and feeding rituals. Classes start 1 on 1 and transition to small groups, consisting of 6 sessions, 30-45 minutes each. They also offer puppy parties for socialization.

Private Lessons are available for all ages, addressing fear, aggression, behavior problems, and impulsive or hyperactive behaviors, lasting 6 weeks. The Basic Obedience Class, for dogs 7 months to senior, teaches good training sessions, gestures/lures, sit, down, recall rules, drive-building exercises, duration for sit/down, long line recalls, loose leash walking, leave it, and food toss recall. These classes also start 1 on 1 and transition to small groups, with 6 sessions, 30-45 minutes each.

The 3 Week Training Camp (no boarding) is for dogs 5 months and older, focusing on behavior problems, impulse control, basic obedience, and off-leash recall, with twice-weekly drop-offs. Honor’s Obedience, offered after Basic Obedience, includes advanced luring, hand touch, place command, touch pads, stand, public access walking drills, greeting people/dogs, contact heeling, and recall drills, also 6 sessions, 30-45 minutes each.

Pricing Summary

Puppy Class and Basic Obedience Class are each $490 + Tax for 6 sessions. Private Lessons are priced at $600 for non-aggressive dogs and $700 for aggressive dogs, lasting 6 weeks. The 3 Week Training Camp costs $1,900 if using a prong collar or $2,120 if using an e-collar. Honor’s Obedience is $450 + tax for 6 sessions.

The academy is unable to offer refunds. They accept Credit Cards, with a 3% processing fee applied.

With 25 years of experience, the trainer utilizes a method described as “classical conditioning” and “motivational reinforcement training,” also known as “Marker training.”

This approach builds a dog’s drive and encourages them to use their brain to complete exercises for rewards, which can include high-value treats, toys, or praise. The academy positions its training style as a balanced approach, falling between harsh “yank and crank” methods and purely “begging and bribing” with food.

In addition to training, Puget Sound K9 Academy also sells various dog-related products, including training collars, treats, and other accessories. They aim to transform the relationship between pets and their owners.
