Specialized walks include “Decompression & Relaxation walks” for scent exploration and “Training Walks” for leash manners, focus, and polite greetings.

The staff is experienced in administering all forms of medication; a detailed written schedule specifying dosage, timing, and medication name, along with home administration methods, is required.

Testimonials

“From the time Viola was six months old, the Happy Paws team has taken amazing care of her – whether for the day, overnight, or for a week at a time. In fact, even though we moved to Charlottesville five years ago, I still only board Viola at Happy Paws! They understand and nurture her bulldog quirkiness. I cannot imagine leaving Viola anywhere else.”
– Jen L.

“The entire team at Happy Paws are the difference maker for us. We have been relying on Stefanie and her team for over 15 years. Starting with our first dog, Freckles, and now with our current COVID rescues, Chicky and Emas, we always feel welcomed and there is a comfort we have in placing our dogs in the care of the Happy Paws team. We know they are loved and cared for with genuineness and kindness and we regard it as a home away from home for our precious canine family members.”
– Bob and Suzanne B.

“Happy Paws was an amazing daycare and training facility! From the start they ensured that I understood my options for the training and provided a test run on how Kiko will do both at the daycare with the other dogs as well as one on one with the Trainer, John. Kiko did great in both assessments and it was also nice to be able to check in from time to time on their cameras when she was at the daycare. After her assessments and choosing the right training package for both myself and Kiko, John went straight into the training and I started seeing the results of it within the second week! Kiko was picking up everything nicely and John and daycare staff were very transparent with how Kiko’s training and daycare experience went whenever I picked her up that day, even providing a bit of homework for me to work on with Kiko which further cemented her learning at home. Overall her training went really well and Kiko and I are closer and work better with each other now than we did before! John being available almost 24/7 was also amazing for whenever I had quick questions when going over training with Kiko at home and even after the official training period ended. I highly suggest working with HappyPaws if you are looking for training your best friend or even just a daycare center!”

About the Trainer

Puptagon, also known as Happy Paws DC, is a dog training business that has been operating since 2007. They are dedicated to creating a fun and stimulating environment where dogs feel safe, secure, and can be themselves.

They offer personalized “play-to-learn” programs based on deep knowledge of pet care and canine behavioral science. These sessions are designed to address each dog’s unique needs and specific concerns, maintaining a low pet-to-people ratio for loving supervision.

Beyond training, they provide boarding and daycare services, integrating training programs across all three services. Their trainers are certified, have at least six years of experience, and continuously update their knowledge by attending workshops and seminars by world-renowned trainers. They aim to transform dogs with even the most challenging behaviors into well-behaved and happy family members.

Happy Paws DC also offers a convenient pick-up and drop-off service for canine clients through Fido Fitness, a DC-based pet transportation company covering NW Washington and Bethesda.

Accomplishments

Happy Paws DC has been operating since 2007. Their trainers are all certified and possess at least six years of experience in the field of animal and dog behavior. They are committed to ongoing education, regularly attending workshops and seminars led by world-renowned trainers such as Ken Ramirez, Sue Sternberg, and Pat Miller. The business prides itself on its ability to transform dogs with even the most challenging behaviors into well-behaved and happy family members. Stefanie is the Founder, and John is the Lead Trainer.

How to Get Started!

All new clients are required to attend a “Meet & Greet” assessment before utilizing daycare or overnight stays. During this $45 session (for first-time clients only), trainers evaluate the dog’s size, age, personality, and play style, and monitor for signs of hunger, fatigue, or behavioral changes to ensure compatibility and enjoyment at Happy Paws. They will also inform owners of any issues that may need addressing.

Advance planning is crucial; after the Meet & Greet, clients should bring their dog for a few hour-long play dates to ensure they are ready for longer visits, can socialize with other dogs, and participate happily in activities. Dogs who have not visited for two months or more will require a re-evaluation. All new and current clients must register on the online portal to make future reservations.
