Ray offers professional dog training services with a customized approach, avoiding one-size-fits-all methods. Training begins with a dog assessment to understand the dog’s behavior, personality, temperament, and learning curve, often conducted at the client’s home.

Programs include Puppy Training, focusing on shaping and developing puppies during their critical period, and various levels of obedience training: Level 1 Beginner Obedience for mature dogs (over 16 weeks), Level 2 Intermediate Obedience which incorporates correction and praise without relying on food rewards, and Level 3 Advanced Obedience for off-leash work under extreme distractions. Specialized services include Aggression Assessments, Litter Evaluations, and preparation for AKC programs such as S.T.A.R. Puppy®, Canine Good Citizen®, and Community Canine®. Private Training & Boarding is also available as a two-week intensive school.

About the Trainer

Razor K-9 is a professional dog training business led by Ray Kerimian, a retired Wayne County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit handler and head trainer with over three decades of experience. Ray specializes in training dogs that other trainers have deemed untrainable, operating under the motto ‘For the Serious Enthusiast Demanding Excellence & Reliability in Their Dog Trainer™’.

Ray offers a personalized approach to dog training, emphasizing that he does not use a one-size-fits-all method. He conducts dog assessments at the client’s home to identify environmental factors and tailor training programs to each dog’s unique temperament and learning curve.

In addition to training services, Razor K-9 also sells handcrafted dog leashes and collars made from Biothane-Coated Webbing, available both online and in various retail stores across Michigan. Ray also conducts free “Ask The Trainer” seminars at local pet stores to help owners with their family pets.

Accomplishments

Ray Kerimian is a retired K-9 Unit handler and head trainer from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for 22 years. He was trained and certified as a K-9 Handler by the nationally recognized Detroit Police Department, learning general obedience, tracking, detector dog training, and decoying for protection work.

He earned a Dog Trainer Instructor’s Certificate from the Oakland Police Academy in 2001 and became the head trainer for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, where he trained new police dogs and handlers, and drafted a K-9 policy adopted by other law enforcement agencies. Ray trained the first bomb detection dog for the Sheriff’s Department in 2002 and worked with narcotics and explosives detection dogs. He won numerous awards in police dog competitions, including placing in the top ten in a National K-9 Competition.

Ray is recognized as a certified Police Dog Trainer with the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA), serving on its Executive Board and helping establish USPCA Region 19 as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. He has instructed at the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority (MMRMA) and developed the “First of its kind” K-9 Training Program for the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) Interdiction Jetway Training Program, lecturing throughout the U.S. He was also a contract instructor with the DEA. Ray is an approved American Kennel Club (AKC) evaluator for AKC Canine Good Citizen®, AKC Community Canine®, S.T.A.R. Puppy®, and AKC Trick Dog programs, and is a member of the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA).

How to Get Started!

Clients can contact Ray to ask a question or schedule an appointment. The process typically begins with a Dog Assessment, priced at $195, which is conducted at the client’s home to gather information about the dog’s behavior and personality and to identify any environmental problems. This assessment helps create a customized training program tailored to the dog’s specific needs.
