Dog Training Methodology

The Richmond Dog Obedience Club offers Manners Classes, Specialty Classes, and Sport Classes. Manners classes, including Puppy Star and Basic, focus on fundamental obedience skills to build a harmonious relationship between pets and people.

Specialty classes, such as Novice, Open, and Utility, aim to teach tricks, build confidence, and introduce new concepts. Sport classes, also including Novice, Open, and Utility, are designed for more advanced skills and competition-oriented training. To register for a class, individuals must have a dog on their profile.

About the Trainer

Richmond Dog Obedience Club is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the relationship between pets and people by teaching responsible obedience classes. They aim to make both the handler and dog a team, promoting companionship. The club does not depend on paid professionals; its membership willingly conducts all training and business operations.

Training builds confidence, provides mental stimulation, and strengthens the human-animal bond. The club emphasizes that dogs are always learning and it is never too late to start training. They conduct various activities including demonstrations, trials, and seminars.

Accomplishments

The Richmond Dog Obedience Club operates as an all-volunteer organization, with its membership willingly conducting all training and business operations. The club is dedicated to its mission of improving the relationship between pets and people through responsible obedience classes.

How to Get Started!

To begin, individuals can sign in or create a new account on the website and add their dog to their profile to register for a class. To become a club member, several requirements must be met.

These include taking a class, attending a quarterly new member orientation meeting, and attending two regular club membership meetings held on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and December). Additionally, prospective members must complete 16 hours of classroom assisting and participate in two club projects, such as assisting with trials, run-throughs, demonstrations, or acting as a club greeter.

Finally, a completed membership application, along with at least two recommendation letters from club members and the annual dues, must be submitted to the Membership Chairperson. The application will then be reviewed at a board meeting and voted on at a subsequent regular club membership meeting.
