Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Balanced Training
River City Obedience Training offers individualized programs including Puppy Training and Manners, Basic Dog Obedience Training and Manners, Beyond Basic Dog Training, Behavior Problem Counseling, and Canine Camp Board and Train.
Puppy training focuses on creating good habits, preventing bad ones, and teaching basic commands using positive motivation, covering developmental stages, socialization, and routine care. Basic obedience includes techniques for leash walking, sit, lie down, stay, and come when called, with practical application tips. Beyond Basic builds on these skills for off-leash reliability, strengthening the bond, and preparing for therapy dog programs or the Canine Good Citizen test.
Behavior Problem Counseling addresses issues like jumping, housebreaking, nipping, barking, digging, chewing, phobias, shyness, reactivity, bolting, and aggression, using a humane and psychological approach to define and resolve problems. Canine Camp Board and Train is an intensive, selective service for dogs needing professional training away from home, with individualized programs for obedience, manners, and behavior, including follow-up assistance.
About the Trainer
River City Obedience Training, established in 1986 by Sue Torpy, provides dog training and behavior counseling in Omaha, Nebraska, and surrounding communities. Sue Torpy has been training dogs since 1972 and has an extensive background with animals.
The business offers a common sense dog training program with a focus on educating the owner in “how dogs learn.” They stress humane, tested, and reliable methods, with a strong accent on positive motivational methods, while also being flexible enough to use traditional techniques to suit individual dogs. This balanced approach aims to train dogs and modify behaviors without unnecessary harshness.
River City Obedience Training features individualized dog training sessions conducted in the client’s home, offering convenience and a less stressful environment for the dog, free from initial distractions. Later, training can be done in various locations with distractions to test reliability. The goal is to enhance the dog and owner relationship, helping owners achieve harmony and satisfaction with a well-mannered, obedient dog through training, respect, and mutual understanding. They also provide lifetime support after training completion.
