ROOT Dog Training offers in-home and private training sessions tailored for every dog and owner. They focus on establishing a strong bond between the dog and family, starting as early as 9 weeks for puppies to take advantage of the critical socialization period. Puppy training covers basic skills like sit, down, come when called, settle, and leave it.
For older dogs (over 5 months), training focuses on managing energy, enthusiasm, and exuberance by teaching calmness, focus, and attention. The goal is to help dogs become good canine citizens. The trainer also offers Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation for those interested in emotional support and/or therapy dog work. All training methods are fear-free, force-free, science-based, and family-friendly, emphasizing positive reinforcement and respect for both dogs and owners.
About the Trainer
ROOT Dog Training, owned and operated by Jody Haas-Wolfson, provides easy and fun dog training for puppies, teenage dogs, adult dogs, senior dogs, or dogs with specific behavioral issues. The business focuses on building strong relationships between dogs and their families, making training a fun activity rather than a chore.
They specialize in developing well-behaved companion dogs using positive reinforcement techniques, including operant and classical conditioning, with tools like a clicker, praise, and food. ROOT Dog Training explicitly states they never use force, fear, physical manipulation, or corrective collars, adhering to fear-free and force-free principles.
All sessions are private, in-home lessons, ensuring a personalized and positive training environment. They do not offer any classes. The training is science-based and family-friendly, emphasizing working with both the owner/handler and their dog to ensure success.
ROOT Dog Training aims to help owners build skills and confidence to continue training their dogs, drawing from expert sources and years of practical application. They are dedicated to being a superior dog training academy on the North Shore of Chicago.
