Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Balanced Training
Royal Gun Dogs provides training programs focused on developing exceptional hunting partners and competitive teams. Richard Gebhart’s training philosophy emphasizes balance, fostering the dog’s natural hunting drive and desire while cultivating a “team player” attitude.
He offers training for varying levels of Field Trial retrievers, pointers, and other upland breeds, including foundational “Retriever Basics.” Training sessions are available as one-on-one private lessons or in group settings, and Richard also enjoys training handlers alongside their dogs.
About the Trainer
Royal Gun Dogs offers dog training services led by Richard Gebhart, operating within the Hastings Island Hunting Preserve. Richard began his professional training career in 2002, specializing in gun dog training.
He gained experience with various levels of Field Trial retrievers, learning the Rex Carr method for Retriever Basics under Billy Sargenti. In 2013, he expanded his expertise to include pointers and other upland breeds while working under Steve Klassen at Blue Ridge Kennels. His experience spans from top-level field trial and hunt test dogs to everyday hunting and home companions.
Richard is an avid upland and waterfowl hunter, emphasizing the importance of teamwork between a hunter and a well-trained gundog to enhance the hunting experience and reduce lost game. He is actively involved in the AKC retriever-hunt test community, having qualified at an AKC Master National event, and he also assists clients at local weekend AKC retriever hunt tests.
