Royal Port K-9

Royal Port K-9 offers several training programs designed for various needs. The Puppy Pre-school Program focuses on laying foundational work during a puppy’s most impressionable time, implementing social and environmental neutrality training in a positive, force-free environment. This program helps puppies learn that work equals reward and builds fundamental blocks for future training, suitable for both pet companions and future working dogs.

The Basic Obedience Training is recommended for any and all dogs, from working K-9’s to pet dogs. It teaches a command structure and basic commands, and trains both the dog and owner(s) to maintain a positive and healthy relationship. The Advanced Off-leash Obedience Training is a continuation of the Basic Obedience program, designed to transfer a dog’s on-leash abilities to off-leash performance. This program includes an electronic e-collar, which is integrated into the dog’s gear profile and paired with known negative markers and corrections to generalize behaviors while keeping the dog’s enthusiasm and motivation high.

For those interested in competitive dog sports, Royal Port K-9 provides Sport / Competition Training. They actively participate in events affiliated with Working Dogs of America, Inc. (WDA) and consistently train handlers and dogs for WDA titles in five different divisions: Obedience, Protection, Protection Sport, Police Dog, and Tracking. Additionally, they offer Protection Training to provide an added layer of defense for individuals and families. This training aims to provide capable animals with the genetic ability and trained skillset to prevent various dangerous situations, including attacks on handlers, carjackings, kidnappings, human trafficking, murder, and rape. They also offer the option of building a protection dog “From a pup – Up!”.

Royal Port K-9 is a dog training business owned and operated by Lesley and Andrew Rowland, who share a lifelong passion for canines. Their mission is to produce World Class Working K-9’s for Tactical and Practical Operations.

They utilize a balanced and motivational approach to training that is both fair and fun for the dog, training in Obedience, Agility, and Protection. They take an ethical and scientific approach to dog training, utilizing both classical and operant conditioning methods. They tap into all four quadrants of operant conditioning and use “markers” to enhance communication between dog and handler, keeping the “work” fun and exciting in a positive environment.

In addition to training, Royal Port K-9 offers stud services and sells dogs, including protection dogs and puppies. They also operate the Royal Port K-9 Bite Club.

Andrew Rowland is a certified decoy through Working Dogs of America, Inc. (WDA). Royal Port K-9 actively participates in events affiliated with WDA.
