About the Trainer

San Antonio Dog Training Club (SADTC) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization founded in 1961 that provides affordable, positive-reinforcement-based dog training classes to help owners build strong, loving bonds with their dogs. They offer group classes for puppies, adult dogs, and dogs preparing for competition, including Basic Manners, AKC Star Puppy, Intermediate Manners (CGC Prep), Introduction to Agility, and Scent Work. Classes are held at Dogtopia on De Zavala in San Antonio and are designed to be fun, structured, and effective. SADTC also hosts annual AKC Obedience and Rally Trials, supporting dog sports and community engagement. The club encourages prospective members to observe a class before enrolling and offers monthly Zoom meetings for those interested in learning more about the organization.

SADTC focuses exclusively on positive training techniques and does not offer private, in-home, or board-and-train services. All instructors are experienced volunteers who have trained their own dogs and are passionate about helping others. The club supports local animal welfare organizations like Hill Country Animal League and Therapy Animals of San Antonio.

Classes are six weeks long, cost $150 each, and require no prior experience for most programs. Prerequisites are clearly listed, such as Basic Manners before Intermediate Manners or Introduction to Scent Work before Intermediate Scent Work. SADTC is ideal for owners seeking affordable, community-based group training with a focus on obedience, behavior, and sport.

SADTC does not offer dog grooming, boarding, walking, daycare, or other pet services beyond training and trials.

Accomplishments

SADTC has hosted an annual AKC Obedience and Rally Trial since 1961. The club supports local therapy and rescue organizations and provides opportunities for dogs to earn AKC titles through its trials and classes.
