Testimonials

We have taken our dog Sophie to Santa Clara Dog Training Club for the past two years. While it is a drive for us (over an hour in traffic), it is worth it to have trainers that are knowledgeable, dedicated, and love what they do. What we appreciate is that the training is very affordable and that the instructors are committed to creating a great training environment. With the club’s help, Sophie is a Canine Good Citizen, knows how to do tricks, and is continuing in obedience. We highly recommend Santa Clara Dog Training Club.

My 2 year old labrador retriever and I have been taking scent work classes with Laura for over a year. Laura puts a lot of work into setting up searches with a variety of difficulty levels. She is encouraging and patient, and I have learned so much from her. My pup and I have just started to participate in AKC scent work trials, and we’ve earned a couple of placement ribbons and an element title.

There are few places to train in scent work, so I am grateful to have had this training opportunity. Classes are very affordable, and the club officers are responsive and accommodating.

I highly recommend this club!

I’ve taken many of my pack to scentwork and obedience – from puppies to adults they’ve all had fun. Great for CGC testing too.

About the Trainer

Santa Clara Dog Training Club is an AKC-member obedience club founded in 1954, offering in-person group dog training classes in San Jose and Santa Clara County. With over 60 years of experience, the club provides affordable, hands-on training in Obedience, Rally, and Scentwork for puppies, adolescents, adults, and senior dogs of all breeds, including mixed breeds. Classes start every 7 weeks and are taught by experienced, dedicated instructors who emphasize positive, reward-based methods. The club also offers Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog International testing, supports working and service dogs, and hosts annual obedience and agility trials. Members benefit from a strong community focused on responsible ownership, sportsmanship, and canine welfare.

The club operates at two seasonal locations: the Santa Clara Fairgrounds in winter and SVCTE off Hillsdale in summer. They encourage new members to take a class first, then apply for membership with two sponsor recommendations. The club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations are tax-deductible.

In addition to training, they support the community by donating bulletproof vests to police K-9 units and promoting therapy and search & rescue dog programs.

Accomplishments

Founded in 1954, the club has trained dogs and handlers for over 60 years. It has administered countless Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog International tests, supported Search & Rescue dogs, and donated bulletproof vests to San Jose Police Department K-9 units. It is an AKC-licensed club authorized to conduct official all-breed events and award points.

How to Get Started!

Prospective clients are encouraged to enroll in a class to experience the training environment. After attending one or two classes, individuals may apply for membership by securing sponsorship from two current members.
