Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Equipment:

  • Clickers

Savvy Canine & Equine Training offers private coaching and private day training for dogs, tailored to individual needs and schedules. Private coaching provides one-on-one instruction with practical, encouraging guidance. Private day training involves the trainer working with the dog in the owner’s home, then transitioning the learned behaviors to the owner.

Dog training programs include Puppy Training for 7-12 week old puppies (focusing on calmness, impulse control, positive experiences, and field trips), Basic Manners for dogs 6 months and older (focusing on calmness, impulse control, and positive experiences), Behavior Modification for unwanted behaviors (requiring prior basic obedience, using desensitization and/or positive reinforcement), and Loose Leash Walking (teaching techniques for attention and ignoring distractions in real-world scenarios).

Horse training includes Introductory Consultations and Behavior Modification. Consultations involve assessing the horse’s routine and behavior to create a customized training plan. Behavior modification addresses issues through practical horsemanship, low-stress handling, and scientific principles, covering ground work manners, behavior problems, and husbandry behaviors.

About the Trainer

Savvy Canine & Equine Training, led by Jenny Stieglitz, offers reward-based training for dogs and horses. Jenny brings 13 years of experience to her practice, focusing on understanding the root causes of problem behaviors in animals.

The business provides private, in-home dog training lessons and private day training options, which are designed to fit busy schedules and are tailored to individual goals. A unique aspect of their approach is the incorporation of homeopathic treatments like kinesiology taping, Reiki, physical therapy, body work, and essential oils, used to address health issues that may contribute to behavioral problems.

Savvy Canine & Equine Training aims to help owners train less and play more, offering personalized coaching with lasting results through a balance of science-based training and interactive play.

Accomplishments

Jenny Stieglitz has 13 years of experience training dogs and horses. Her advanced training includes Karen Pryor Academy and Dr. Ian Dunbar Sirius Courses for Dog Professionals. She has studied the Masterson Method for horses and The Equine Touch, and has attended multiple conferences and seminars including the Clicker Expo and the IAABC. In 2012, she placed third in The World Clicker Equine Games.

How to Get Started!

New clients begin with an initial consultation, typically conducted at their home. During this 1.5-2 hour session, the trainer gathers information about the dog’s routine and behavioral history, observes interactions, and collaborates with the owner to define goals. A customized training or behavior modification plan is then created based on the dog’s temperament. The consultation also includes management tools, policy review, printed handouts, and email follow-up.
