Board and train programs last several weeks and include comprehensive obedience, behavior modification, and specialized skills like service or protection work. All programs emphasize owner involvement, daily home practice (30 minutes/day), and proofing commands with compulsion. Programs include AKC Canine Good Citizen, Urban CGC, and competition obedience (Novice to Utility). Specialized tracks include service dogs, therapy dogs, search and rescue, and law enforcement K9 training.

Testimonials

I started training with Wally and Edith 3 years ago and have loved every moment. I decided to attend a group basic obedience class to help get Jinx, my year old pit bull, under control. She was very fearful and would stand behind me barking at strangers. During the 6 week class I saw significant improvement in her demeanor and enjoyed training her so much I decided to join their Intermediate Program. Jinx now has the temperament of a therapy dog and will go and politely greet anyone willing to pet her.

We have been with Scheurman’s K9 Academy for 18 years. We started with a German Shepherd who was dog-aggressive and we couldn’t take him anywhere. Wally and Edith taught us how to work with him and were very safety-minded as we worked through his issues. They told us from the start that we had to work with him at home – not just weekly at class. We did everything they said, we put in the effort every day at home and every week at class and we were eventually rewarded with a well behaved dog who happily achieved his Canine Good Citizen title!

I have 95 Lb American Bulldog named Dude. He is a good dog but had bad habits, largely due to my ignorance in training dogs. For example, if we were outside he would not come when I wanted him to sometimes. I took him to Scheurman’s academy once I found out I was going to have a baby boy in 9 months. I wanted to make sure there wouldn’t be any aggression issues and also just needed to have more control over this 95 Lb block of muscle.
