Scheurman’s K9 Academy offers comprehensive dog training programs tailored for various needs and skill levels.
The **Basic Obedience Plus Dog Training** course runs for six weeks, one hour per week, requiring 30 minutes of daily home practice. It covers commands like Sit, Stand, Down, Sit Stay (3 min), Down Stay (5 min), Heeling, Come when called, Automatic Sits, Left/Right turns, Circles, and About turns. It also addresses behavior modification for issues such as jumping, digging, mouthing, mounting, and housebreaking, though it’s not designed for specific aggression issues.
The **Intermediate Obedience Program** builds on basic commands, introducing competition-level skills for AKC, UKC, and Schutzhund. It includes advanced control with long lines, throw chains/disks, off-leash work, attention, various finishes (Right, Left, Schutzhund Flip), heel change of pace, Left About Turn, Weave, Figure Eight, and commands in motion (Down, Sit, Stand on recall/in motion). This program also incorporates the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community Canine Good Citizen (CGCA), and Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) programs.
**Board and Train** programs (Doggie Boot Camp) are available for 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, or 26 weeks, designed for owners with limited time or physical ability. These programs cover the same exercises as group classes and include private lessons for owners upon completion. The 5-week program is 100% guaranteed, and the 6-week “Top Dog Program” offers a lifetime guarantee. Dogs are housed indoors in a climate-controlled environment, fed premium food, and receive daily cooked beef liver and eggs. They are worked no less than five times a day using correction collars, with remote collars optional if supplied by the owner.
**Private Lessons** offer one-on-one training at their location or the client’s home, providing a distraction-free environment and addressing behavior problems where they originate. These lessons cover Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Competition Obedience, as well as specialized training like Trailing, Search and Rescue, Water Rescue, Movie Tricks, K9 First Aid, Behavior Modification, Housebreaking, Service Dogs, Cadaver Recovery, and various Law Enforcement and Personal Protection disciplines.
**Service Dog Training** starts puppies as early as 12 weeks in basic obedience or AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes for socialization. After basic and intermediate obedience, dogs can earn CGC, CGCA, and CGCU titles before progressing to advanced public access and disability-specific task training. They also offer certification for already-trained assistance dogs.
**Personal Protection Bite on Command** training is for medium to large, outgoing, friendly dogs, focusing on prey drive rather than defensive drive. Prerequisites include basic and intermediate obedience, AKC CGC, a criminal background check, home ownership/landlord letter, fenced yard, physical/mental ability to handle the dog, liability insurance, and passing lethal force and canine first aid classes. The program is divided into P1 (Developing Protection/prey bitework), P2 (Developing Protection/defensive bitework), and P3 (Advanced defensive bitework).
They also offer **Canine First Aid and CPR classes** designed by veterinarians and K-9 trainers, teaching skills like CPR, rescue breathing, bleeding control, and handling various injuries and emergencies.

Policies
Scheurman’s K9 Academy has a strict NO REFUND policy. For group classes, if a student misses a class, make-up sessions are available for $60.00 each. If a student attends all classes (or pays for missed make-ups) and their dog is not performing to their standards, they may attend any basic obedience class again, with instructor permission and space availability, at no additional charge (except for missed classes), until satisfied. If the academy feels a student has not met graduation requirements, they will be placed into another group class at no charge (except for missed classes) for as long as it takes, provided they attended all classes or paid for make-ups.
Only the handler and dog named on the application may work the dog; no substitution of handlers is permitted. Aggressive dogs are required to wear a muzzle. There is a strict no drinking or smoking policy on the training field, and no alcohol or drugs are permitted on the training site.
Board and Train programs offer guarantees: the 5-week program is 100% guaranteed, the 6-week “Top Dog Program” has a Lifetime Guarantee, and other 4, 5, and 7-week board and train programs offer a One Year Guarantee. The Lifetime Guarantee means clients can bring their dog back for refresher courses at no additional charge for as long as they own the dog. For board and train, one-half of the payment is due at drop-off, with the remainder due upon completion of training.
For the “Pay Once Lifetime Intermediate Obedience” program, after 30 days from graduation, the handler and dog are required to be tested into the Intermediate Program for a $40.00 fee.
