Classes at Shagbark Dog Training are typically 6 weeks long, unless otherwise specified. The curriculum includes Puppy Enrichment for puppies under 12 months, focusing on socialization, basic obedience, and fun games.
Beginning Obedience is offered for both puppies and adults, covering essential commands like Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Leave it, and loose leash walking. Advanced Obedience builds upon these skills with extended stays, recalls, and heeling, and can be taken multiple times to work towards off-leash commands.
Specialized classes include Rally Obedience, where handlers and dogs navigate a course performing various skills, and AKC Beginner Novice Prep Class, an optional titling obedience class. They also offer AKC Conformation and Handling, Agility for fun, Scent Work/Nose Work for competition or enjoyment, and Therapy Dog Training which also caters to potential Service dogs.
Additional offerings include AKC Good Citizen and Trick Dog classes, covering various AKC titles (CGC, Community Canine, Urban CGC, and Trick Dog levels). Urban Agility/Canine Fitness is available for active dogs with prior obedience training, and group fitness walks are scheduled based on weather. The facility also hosts dog birthday parties and puppy litter parties, and new sessions typically start in April.

Pricing Summary
Most 6-week classes are priced at $150 per session. Specific classes like Agility Foundations cost $135 for a 6-week session, while Fun with Agility is $75.
Conformation classes are available as a drop-in for $10. Open Training sessions are $35 for a drop-in or $150 for a full session. Fees for Saturday classes are announced on their Facebook page.

Shagbark Dog Training is Marysville’s premier dog training facility, offering affordable dog training focused on building lasting relationships and foundations between dogs and their owners. They provide a variety of classes, seminars, and private lessons.
Beyond core dog training, Shagbark Dog Training also offers canine fitness classes, preparation for therapy dog work, group dog walks, and trick dog training. They can host dog birthday parties and provide puppy enrichment programs for new litters. A small retail shop for dog products is also available.
Their instructors collectively boast over 90 years of experience, ensuring a knowledgeable and supportive environment for dog owners and their pets.
Accomplishments
The instructors at Shagbark Dog Training collectively possess over 90 years of experience. Heather Brown, the owner, has been training dogs for over 25 years, competing in numerous venues such as conformation, rally, obedience, earthdog, barn hunt, fast cat, and agility. She is a CGC, AKC Star Puppy, and Trick Dog evaluator, an AKC Temperament Test Judge, Fetc Judge, Farm Test Judge, AKC Junior Showmanship Judge, Certified Canine Fitness Instructor, and a Judges Mentor for the Border Terrier. Heather has also been involved with Union County’s 4H dog program for over 20 years and serves on the Union County 4H Advisory Council.
Annette Neff, who has owned Pet Behavior Associates since 1985, holds a Master of Science degree in education with over 30 years of classroom experience, plus 90 graduate credits in education and psychology. Her graduate work at The Ohio State University emphasized human and animal learning, animal behavior, and comparative psychology. She completed a three-year internship in an animal behavioral clinic and has been training dogs in Central Ohio since 1982, being the first in the area to offer puppy classes and positive reinforcement training. Annette has earned multiple AKC titles on various breeds in obedience, rally, conformation, agility, and earthdog, and is an AKC Earthdog judge. She was active in Border Terrier rescue for 20 years and served on the boards of the Border Terrier Club of America and the Border Terrier Club of Central Ohio.
Michelle Jewell began training dogs in 4H at age 8 and has since shown and titled many dogs in AKC events including showmanship, obedience, rally, and agility. Dylan Kyle started training in early 2020, having competed in numerous Rally and Obedience trials, dabbled in agility, and is pursuing scent work and FastCat with his dogs.
