Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Balanced Training
Equipment:
- ✓ Obstacle Courses
Siskiyou K9 offers a range of training programs designed to help owners and their dogs succeed. Their approach focuses on developing well-balanced, confident dogs through clear communication and a strong bond.
Basic Obedience training covers building engagement, using clear markers and release words, and commands such as Down, Sit, Come when called, Heel/Walking on a leash without pulling, Bed or Place command, and Quiet. It also includes crate training, respectable manners, proper socialization, and being “handler friendly” for vet visits or nail trimming.
Advanced Obedience is for dogs that have mastered basic skills and want to apply them to more detailed tasks. This includes going on/over/through obstacles, holding and bringing items, obedience from horseback, ATVs, or bicycles, exposure and neutralization to livestock, obedience foundation for herding work, and scent work like tracking or finding items, including shed hunting.
Puppy Development focuses on laying a strong foundation for new puppies. Key areas include potty training, crate training, engagement, using clear markers and release words, confidence building, socialization, luring, puppy manners, and shaping good behaviors.
For Sport, Competitive Obedience, and Protection, Siskiyou K9 provides intense, detailed training. This includes building a strong relationship and intense focus under high distraction, competition heel and positioning, proper changes, competition recall, out of motion exercises, dumbbell/retrieve work, obstacles like jumps and A-frames, send aways, trial routines, barking on command, building toy drive and grips, play fundamentals, body awareness, and handler skills.
Siskiyou K9 also offers AKC Canine Good Citizen Classes and Testing. Ashly Peters is an AKC approved evaluator for titles such as AKC Canine Good Citizen, AKC STAR Puppy Program, AKC Canine Good Citizen Urban, AKC Community Canine, and AKC Trick Dog Testing.
Behavior Modification training is available for reactive dogs and anxious fearful dogs. Due to the individualized nature of these cases, clients are encouraged to contact Siskiyou K9 for more information.

Accomplishments
Ashly Peters, the trainer at Siskiyou K9, has been passionate about animals since an early age, volunteering at local humane societies and working with challenging dogs. She expanded her training diversity by delving deeper into dog behavior and training.
Ashly flourished from general obedience and behavior modification into the working dog world, mentoring under high-end trainers in California and Oregon. She became deeply involved in training and trialing dogs, competing in Working Dogs of America, AKC Obedience, and Schutzhund/IGP. In Spring 2019, Ashly competed in Working Dogs of America Regionals with two of her dogs, winning high in trial and qualifying both dogs for the 2020 WDA Nationals. In late summer 2020, she earned a BH title with her dog Kaiyah at the IGP Pacific Northwest Regionals.
Ashly is an official AKC Canine Good Citizen, STAR Puppy, and trick dog evaluator. Siskiyou K9 also congratulates several team members and their Siskiyou K9 dogs for qualifying for Working Dogs of America 2025 Nationals.
