Sit, Stay & Obey Dog Training offers personalized training through private, virtual, and group class formats. Private sessions are conducted at the client’s home, customized to address specific behavioral issues or teach desired commands, and include hard copies of covered material. Virtual sessions are available via Zoom, providing the same benefits as private classes at a reduced cost. Additionally, typed handouts are available for specific problems or behaviors.

Group classes are held at partner facilities in North Andover, Newbury, and Salisbury. These classes are designed to be more affordable than private sessions, offer opportunities for puppy socialization, and help dogs learn to overcome distractions. Classes meet once a week for either 4 or 6 consecutive weeks, with one makeup class allowed per session.

The group class curriculum includes:
* **Puppy (9 weeks to 6 months):** Focuses on effective communication, addressing common puppy behaviors like potty training, nipping, chewing, barking, and jumping. Commands taught include Sit, Look, Down, Stay, Come, Leave it, and Leash walking, all using positive reinforcement. The class also provides socialization opportunities.
* **Adult (6 months to any age):** Ideal for newly adopted dogs or those with limited training experience, covering problem behaviors and basic commands from the puppy class.
* **Intermediate:** Builds on basic commands by adding increased distraction and difficulty, teaching impulse control, heel, wait, and settle. Prerequisites include completion of Puppy or Adult class, or basic knowledge of sit, down, stay, and come.
* **Obility:** A blend of agility and obedience training that builds trust and confidence. Dogs work on manners, heeling, staying, and coming with distractions, while navigating tunnels, jumps, and dog walks. Prerequisites are similar to Intermediate.
* **Rally Obedience (4-week class):** Fosters a closer bond through a fun activity where dog and handler navigate a course of designated stations, executing commands. Prerequisites include Intermediate class or existing knowledge of heeling.
* **Scent Work/Nose Work:** Teaches dogs to detect odors, providing mental stimulation, increasing quality of life, and reducing anxiety or boredom. This class is suitable for any dog, regardless of age, breed, or sex.
* **Canine Good Citizen Preparation and Test:** Prepares dogs and owners for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, which consists of 10 exercises focusing on good manners, obedience, responsible ownership, and strengthening the bond. The trainer is a certified CGC evaluator.
* **Sampler:** A three-hour class offering a taste of Obility, Scent Work, and Rally-O.

Testimonials

“Daisy enjoyed her stay. Tara made sure she would settle right in. To Daisy it was a great vacation.”
– Susan S

“I first met Tara in the setting as a trainer for my 6 month old Great Dane. When I was leaving for vacation and discovered she boards dogs in her home, it was a no brainer to have her watch our dog. Tara went above and beyond when taking care of my Great Dane puppy! I received constant updates and photos and I knew he was being well taken care of. I was concerned he wouldn’t want to come home after all the attention he was receiving! I would recommend Tara to anyone for training and boarding.”
– Kristen Belmonte

“Tara is an amazing trainer. My Ollie was having challenges with pulling on the leash toward other dogs. Her techniques that she worked with us on in one personal training session was amazing. We now have tools that we need to have a fun, enjoyable walk without the pulling. Thanks Tara!!”
– Mindy M
