About the Trainer
Sky Dogs is a dog training club in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 2014, offering group classes in agility, obedience, reactive dog behavior modification, and Happy Ratters (a scent work activity involving safe rat hunting in clean urban environments). They specialize in positive reinforcement training and foster a supportive community for dog owners. Their facility provides 24/7 access to co-op members for independent practice. Classes are structured by skill level, from beginner agility to advanced competition training, with specialized programs like AKC STAR Puppy and reactive dog behavior modification. They emphasize building handler-dog partnerships through fun, low-stress methods and encourage participation in AKC and CPE competitions.
Sky Dogs offers a monthly co-op membership that grants unlimited access to the training facility outside class hours, early class registration, and waived class fees (instructor fees still apply). Their reactive dog class is a six-week program with a non-dog first week for handler training, followed by private and group sessions using distance and visual barriers to manage triggers. All training is positive-only, with no use of training collars permitted.
They also offer Rally Obedience and agility classes with progressive levels, including dedicated weave pole instruction and handling technique refinement. Their instructors are experienced in competitive obedience and agility, with some holding AKC evaluator credentials.
Accomplishments
Many students have earned top honors in AKC and CPE agility competitions. One instructor, Debbie Drake, is an AKC Evaluator for the STAR Puppy program.
