Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Skye’s Dog Training offers comprehensive programs including group classes and private sessions. Group classes are structured as 4-week sessions, each 60 minutes long, with a maximum of 4 dogs per class to ensure personalized attention. These classes cover a range of topics from basic manners and puppy training to advanced skills and public access.

Specific group classes include Beginning Pet Manners, Intermediate, Advanced (preparing for AKC Canine Good Citizen), Tricks & Games, and field trip classes like Out on the Town and A Walk in the Park. Specialized group classes are available for Psychiatric Service Dog Tasks, Service Dog Public Access Skills, Advanced Service Dog Public Access, and Therapy Prep.

Private sessions address individual behavior issues such as aggression, fear, separation anxiety, and resource guarding, as well as basic obedience cues, dog manners, and puppy training. They also provide evaluations and task training for Service, Therapy, Facility, and Emotional Support Animals. All private training is conducted at Skye’s facility or virtually.

Pricing & Policies

Pricing Summary

Group classes are $195 for a 4-week session, each lasting 60 minutes. Private sessions include a 2-hour behavior consultation for $250 and 1-hour follow-up or basic training consultations for $125. Service/Therapy Dog evaluations are also $125 for a 1-hour session.

For service dog training, the estimated cost for an adult dog is around $1500 over 18 months, with most clients spending about $2000 including classes and private sessions over 1-2 years. Payments are due per class or session, not upfront.

An optional Facility Dog Assessment costs the same as a 1-hour private session plus a travel fee, with an additional $75 charge for badge/paperwork if the dog passes.

Policies

Skye’s Dog Training does not offer board and train services, and dogs must reside with their owners throughout the training program. For group classes, dogs must be tolerant of people and other dogs; those with excessive barking, aggression, high anxiety, fear, or a bite history should begin with private training.

Clients can join Advanced and field trip classes at a pro-rated cost after the start date if space is available and prerequisites are met. A letter from a licensed mental health professional or physician is required for Psychiatric Service Dog Task classes or private service animal task training.

To qualify for Public Access testing, clients must complete a minimum of two group class series or four private sessions with Skye’s Dog Training, even if they have prior training elsewhere.

Testimonials

“Because of the positive training methods, both Georgia and I get to meet new friends and enjoy classes together.”
– Brittany

“She is so awesome, she has everything you need. Her classes are as much for you as the dog. She teaches nutrition, body language, and helps resolve unwanted behaviors. I seriously cannot recommend her enough!”
– Cali

“We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Skye. I had worked with 2 other “trainers” and my pup was becoming more and more confused and scared. Skye helped me to help Tango learn and grow and become such an amazing companion! Skye’s positive approach to training is so refreshing! Each class contains just the right amount of information so you learn a lot, without being overwhelmed. Tango and I have taken nearly every single class Skye offers and our hard work had paid off. I love being able to take Tango to all of the pet friendly stores and events in the area knowing we will both enjoy our outing because of the lessons we learned from Skye!”
– Jennifer

How to Get Started!

Clients can start by creating a free account on the website. Most clients begin with the Beginning Pet Manners group class or a private training session, even if they have prior training, as this foundational class covers essential methods and skills.

Dogs must meet group class requirements (non-aggressive, non-reactive, up-to-date vaccinations, 8 weeks+) to join without an evaluation. Alternatively, clients can opt for a one-hour evaluation or a two-hour behavior consultation to address specific needs or assess a potential service dog.
