Dog Training Methodology
Smart Paws Dog Training offers in-home private training sessions where a training plan is developed collaboratively, and clients receive homework and unlimited phone and email support between sessions. They also offer day training on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays, where dogs participate in training, enrichment, and physical exercise, serving as an alternative to traditional daycare.
Pricing & Policies
Pricing Summary
In-home private training sessions are $90 per hour. Day training is $60 per day, available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays, though currently not accepting new clients. Phone consultations are available for $25 for 20 minutes.

About the Trainer
Smart Paws Dog Training is located in Montclair, NJ, and serves Montclair and the surrounding areas. They provide in-home private training for dog owners seeking help with a wide variety of training needs, whether adding a new dog, having a new pet, or solving a behavior problem.
Common training subjects include raising a puppy, general obedience, specific behavior issues like better door greeting manners, bringing a new baby into the family, polite leash manners, social issues, and separation issues. They believe every dog is unique and training is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor, focusing on communication styles, effective rewards, and strengthening the bond between dog and owner.
Accomplishments
Courtney Angerer, the Owner/Head Trainer, began professional dog training in 2014. She holds a B.A. in Psychology with a strong interest in animal behavior and learning theory. She gained experience fostering and rehabilitating rescue dogs and mentored at a respected dog training school in Minneapolis, MN, where she taught various group classes and conducted private in-home sessions.
In 2018, she completed the Master Class at CATCH Canine Training Academy and is committed to continuing education. Courtney actively participates in dog sports, playing disc with her dogs Janet and Louie, and competing in competitive obedience and rally obedience. Her Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Byron, competes in the AKC breed ring and has earned several titles. She also volunteers for rescue work.
