Obedience training, for dogs six months and older, covers commands like sit, down, stay, come, and leave it, along with leash manners. It progresses through four levels and includes preparation for AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test. Service Dog Training requires completion of Obedience Levels 1-4 and includes Assistance/Task training, Public Access training, and Therapy Dog training.

KinderPuppy classes are for puppies up to six months old, teaching fundamental obedience commands and addressing common puppy issues like housetraining and chewing. Specialty Training includes Rally, Scent Work, Puppy Social Hour, and Conformation Handling. Boot Camp provides training in basic to advanced obedience, agility, and tricks, while Day Care offers structured playtime. For all classes, a 72-hour advance cancellation is required to receive a refund. Cancellations with less than 72 hours notice may not receive a refund but may be eligible for credit for a future class. Bitches in season can make up missed classes.

All dogs require updated shots and a negative fecal test (at least 6 months recent) at registration. Dogs one year and older must have current DHPP and rabies vaccines. How to Get Started!

To get started, clients should check the class schedules on the Smarty Paws website calendar. For Agility classes, dogs must complete Obedience Level #2. For Service Dog classes, dogs need to complete Basic Obedience 1-4, or undergo a $50 evaluation for skill-level placement.

For Day Care, dogs must be crate trained, social, and free of behavior issues; they will undergo an evaluation on their first day, charged at the Boot Camp price. Payment is due in full prior to the class start date. Clients should bring shot records to the first night of class, dress comfortably in tennis shoes, and ensure their dog is in good health and fit for training. Special needs due to injury or surgery should be communicated in advance.
