Southern Knights’ Retrievers offers multiple training programs for any dog, from inexperienced to fine-tuning gun dogs. The Basic Obedience program lasts about 1 month, focusing on commands like sit, stay, kennel, here, and socialization, for polite, well-mannered dogs not necessarily hunters.
The Started Program typically lasts 4-6 months and includes collar conditioning, force fetch, retrieving single and double marks, introduction to gun fire, and dead birds.
The Complete Duck Dog Program is an addition to the Started Program, advancing training to multiple marks, blinds, hand signals, and various hunting situations, lasting at least 10 months or longer. SKR also offers a Started Pointing Dog program, which includes introduction to birds, gunfire, pointing, and steadiness on game.

Southern Knights’ Retrievers is a family-owned, Christian based retriever training business specializing in started labrador retrievers. They offer basic obedience, basic gun dog, and duck dog training.
The business operates on 28 acres of private training ground, featuring three training ponds to simulate hunt test and flooded timber scenarios, well-maintained grassed areas, flat land, rolling hills, and various environmental options like dry and wet lands, clear areas, timber, and brush piles, all designed to simulate real-world hunting experiences.
Chris Knight, the owner, aims to help individuals have worthwhile hunting experiences with good dogs and hunts, and enjoys involving kids to instill a love of hunting and conservation. Southern Knights’ Retrievers is also partnered with Gunner Kennels, offering their products for purchase.
Accomplishments
Chris Knight holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Natural Resource Management, which assists him in managing his private wildlife preserve and Sandhill Crane fields.
He possesses a lifetime of bird hunting experience, having been raised hunting and training dogs from a young age. He also has experience as a field guide and professional dog trainer.
