Gun Dog Training is a 3-month program that includes a 1-month evaluation period. Dogs learn off-leash obedience, collar conditioning for commands, and retrieving to hand, becoming hunt-ready for dove fields or duck blinds. Detection Dog training focuses on passive alert responses for various odors (truffle, bedbug, bomb, drug dogs) and includes handler training. They also work with young pups on crate and potty training.

Accomplishments

Caleb Horton, the owner-operator, has over 17 years of dog training experience, starting in 2005. He trained under champion dog handler Ricky Furney and is an Orvis endorsed dog trainer. He has broken hundreds of bird dogs and has over 15 years of experience with Labradors and Retrievers.

Caleb has also trained bomb detection dogs through K2 Solutions for use in Afghanistan. Southern Tradition Kennels has been featured in Garden & Gun Magazine, Southwest Living, and filmed with National Geographic for “Puppy Days,” showcasing their dogs’ abilities.
