The Gun Dog Training program typically runs for about four months, establishing groundwork for a balanced hunting companion. It includes basic obedience, collar conditioning, force fetch, 3-handed casts, indirect pressure, introduction to boats, blinds, decoys, gunfire, birds, multiple land and water retrieves, steady to shot, and upland hunting scenarios.

Basic Obedience (All Breeds) is a flexible program for redirecting behaviors or starting young dogs. It covers basic commands (Here, sit, stay, heel, down) both on and off lead, e-collar conditioning if desired, exercise sessions, socialization with other dogs, and interaction with new people and environments.

The Puppy Raising: Puppy Headstart Program is for puppies aged 8 weeks to 6 months, raised in their home. This program focuses on crate and house training, extensive socialization (in home, with other dogs, new people & places), basic obedience using positive motivation, developing learning and problem-solving skills, and introducing puppies to training environments like dog trucks, marks, birds, water, and gunfire.

Field Trial and Hunt Test Basics are priced at $1050 per month, which includes birds, flea/tick & heartworm preventative, and supplements. Steenburgen Retrievers, LLC is a professional dog training business owned and operated by Seth Steenburgen and his wife, Tammy. Located in the heart of central Missouri, their full-service kennel focuses primarily on training young dogs and establishing a solid foundation for success.

Seth’s passion for retrievers was ignited by growing up with family Labradors and prime duck and goose hunting in central Missouri. The business offers a wide range of training opportunities, from raising puppies for basic obedience to tuning up gun dogs and preparing for hunt tests or field trials.

They train five days a week (Monday-Friday) and provide care and exercise for dogs seven days a week. Steenburgen Retrievers is committed to safety and maintains exceptionally high standards for training, care, and the well-being of your dog, utilizing phenomenal training properties.

Accomplishments

Seth Steenburgen has over 15 years of experience training dogs for obedience, waterfowl & upland hunting, and AKC Hunt Tests & Field Trials. He has also trained detection dogs for the United States Military.

Seth has worked with and for notable retriever trainers including Tom Sorenson (Retriever Hall of Fame), Rick Stawski, Jim Van Engen, and Andy Attar. Many of Seth’s pupils have achieved titles in AKC Hunt Tests and Field Trials, such as Junior Hunter, Senior Hunter, Master Hunter, Derby List, Qualified All-Age, Amateur Field Champion, Field Champion, and National Amateur Field Champion.
