Basic Obedience, for dogs 12 weeks and older, covers eye contact, loose leash walking, hand targets, sitting, greeting/no jumping, leave/drop/take, and recall. Advanced Obedience builds on basics, adding advanced commands like stay with distractions and tricks. Specialty classes include Agility for obstacle training, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Prep (requiring Basic & Advanced Obedience) for test readiness, StressFree Pet for calming techniques, and Urban Rat Hunt for scent work. One-week Specialty Classes are available for specific behaviors like Basic Manners, Loose Leash Walking, or Tricks. Private lessons offer customized training and package deals for individual needs.

Dog training classes range from $75 for Puppy Preschool (3 weeks) to $145 for Basic Obedience (6 weeks). Advanced Obedience is $125 (5 weeks), Agility Class is $100 (4 weeks), CGC Prep is $100 (4 weeks), StressFree Pet is $110 (2 weeks), Urban Rat Hunt is $100 (4 weeks), and Specialty Classes are $30 (1 week). Private lessons require a call for pricing, with package deals available.
Overnight kenneling rates vary by kennel size and holiday status. Non-holiday rates are $25/night for Small (4×6), $30/night for Medium (4×8), $35/night for Family Suite, and $20/night for the Small Dog Room (2×4). Multi-dog discounts apply for additional dogs in the same kennel ($20/night for large kennels, $15/night for small dog room). A 2-night minimum stay is required for main kennels, while the small dog room allows 1-night stays. Holiday rates are higher, with major holidays costing $50-$70 per night and minor holidays $37.50-$52.50 per night. Additional kennel services include playtime ($5/day/dog), additional walks ($5/day/dog), and training ($25 for 30 min, $45 for 60 min).
Full-service grooming prices vary based on breed, size, and coat condition; a call is required for a quote. All grooms include bath, blowout, and nail trims. A standalone nail trim is $15.75. Self-serve pet wash is $15.00 for one dog, with an additional $5.00 per extra pet.
Policies
Kenneling requires a 2-night minimum stay, except for the small dog room which allows 1-night stays. A non-refundable deposit is required at booking for kenneling. Dogs picked up after 11:01 AM will incur a full day charge. There are no pick-up or drop-offs on New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. No specific cancellation or rescheduling policies for training classes are provided.

Tails ‘n Training is a locally owned, family-owned business established in Rapid City, SD in September 2010 by Rebecca Almy, a Certified Dog Trainer and Groomer, and Jeff Almy, Kennel Manager. Their passion is to help people communicate and develop healthy relationships with their dogs in a fun and stress-free environment.
They offer a comprehensive range of services, including dog training, overnight dog kenneling, full-service grooming, and self-serve pet wash stations. The business is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all pets and their owners. They pride themselves on being a “one stop dog shop” for various pet needs.
Accomplishments
Rebecca Almy, the owner, is an ABC Certified Dog Trainer since 2004, with 20 years of experience working with hundreds of dogs. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Black Hills State University and completed Animal Behavioral College. Her expertise includes problem-solving, behavioral issues, and customer service. Chloe Norrick is also an ABC Certified Dog Trainer. Renae Lehman, the manager, holds a BA in Animal Science from Purdue University.

For self-pet wash services, appointments are recommended but not required during regular business hours. For overnight kenneling, a non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking.
