About the Trainer

Tallahassee Dog Obedience Club (TDOC) is a licensed American Kennel Club club founded in 1960 that offers group dog training classes to the public in Tallahassee, FL. TDOC provides structured six-week training sessions at the Sue McCollum Community Center and North Florida Fairgrounds for dogs three months and older, including Puppy (AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy), Basic Manners, Manners & More (AKC Canine Good Citizen preparation), Trick Dog, Rally, and competition-level Obedience (Novice, Open, Utility). Classes focus on building owner-dog communication, teaching basic commands, good manners, and preparing dogs for AKC titles. TDOC also hosts AKC-sanctioned obedience, rally, agility, and Barn Hunt trials annually. While TDOC does not offer agility classes, members can connect with experienced agility trainers. The club promotes positive, reward-based training methods and emphasizes teamwork, motivation, and fun. Membership is available for those interested in attending monthly meetings and supporting club events.

TDOC’s programs are designed for all breeds and mixed dogs, with a strong focus on foundational skills and progression to competitive levels. The Manners & More class serves as a prerequisite for Rally and competition obedience. TDOC also offers opportunities to earn AKC titles including CGC, Trick Dog, CD, CDX, UD, and Rally titles through structured, evaluated classes and trials.

TDOC does not provide private lessons, in-home training, boarding, grooming, or day care services. All training is conducted in group facility-based classes.

TDOC welcomes guests to membership meetings and encourages new dog owners to attend orientation before registering for classes.

Accomplishments

TDOC is a licensed AKC club since 1960 and is authorized to host AKC-sanctioned obedience, rally, agility, and Barn Hunt trials. TDOC conducts two obedience/rally trials annually (February and June) and one agility trial in July. TDOC also hosts Barn Hunt trials and a Fast CAT event. The club has trained thousands of dogs and handlers to earn AKC titles including CGC, Trick Dog, CD, CDX, UD, and Rally titles.
