About the Trainer
The Adaptive K9 is a mobile dog training business founded by Caitlin, who specializes in personalized, balanced training for dog owners, with a strong focus on supporting disabled individuals and those owner-training service dogs. Caitlin draws from her personal experience training her own service dog, Chucho, to offer empathetic, adaptive methods that meet the unique needs of each dog-human team. Services include in-home, on-location, and virtual training sessions, covering everything from basic obedience and puppy training to behavior modification for reactivity, anxiety, and aggression. The business emphasizes empowerment, clear communication, and long-term results, helping owners build confidence and stronger bonds with their dogs. They also offer specialized programs like the Lead Together Program for service dog teams, Holiday Manners Packages, and a First Year Puppy Blueprint. Payment plans are available to increase accessibility.
The Adaptive K9 does not have a physical facility and travels to clients’ homes or public locations for evaluations and sessions. Group classes are occasionally held at Caitlin’s home, but are limited in size. Free resources and FAQs are available online to support dog owners between sessions.
Caitlin’s approach is rooted in fairness, kindness, and adaptability, making her services particularly valuable for neurodivergent individuals, disabled owners, and those who have felt unsupported by traditional training methods.
Accomplishments
Caitlin successfully trained her own service dog, Chucho, without formal program support, and now helps disabled individuals owner-train their service dogs. She has developed specialized programs based on lived experience and client feedback, and offers preparation for CGC and SPOT certifications.
