The Cooperative Dog offers a range of programs including the Puppy Foundation Program, Family Dog Program, Reactive Dog Program (Rowdy Rovers), and general Dog Obedience classes.
The Puppy Foundation Program is comprehensive, starting with a “Puppy Head Start Seminar” for owners, an optional “Puppy Jump Start Lesson” (private, in-home), and sequential group classes (Puppy Foundation 1, 2, and 3) that progress from indoor socialization to real-world outdoor training.
The Family Dog Program is designed for young or older adopted dogs, beginning with a “Foundation Seminar” for owners or a “Family Dog Private Lesson.” This is followed by “Family Dog 1” for basic obedience indoors and “Family Dog 2” for strengthening skills in distracted environments, working towards off-leash reliability.
The Reactive Dog Program, “Rowdy Rovers,” addresses dogs that exhibit barking, growling, and lunging at other dogs. It requires a mandatory private consultation ($250) before enrollment in an introductory 3-class series ($175), followed by ongoing 6-week outdoor classes ($350) held in various Boston locations.
General Dog Obedience classes are also available through the Wellesley Recreation Department, including Puppy Kindergarten and Dog Obedience 1 & 2. These are typically 6-week sessions. Group classes generally have 3-8 students, with Wellesley classes accommodating up to 10, and meet for one hour weekly.

Testimonials
“I will never have the words to express my appreciation for Vera’s knowledge, skills, patience and kindness. She is simply wonderful. I still use Vera for help training and follow ups, and will use her forever. I have highly recommended to her several people and they have all been as thrilled.”
– Marci, Hailey & Bartlett Canton, MA
“Vera has been a life-saver for us. About four years ago, we were attacked by 2 off-leash dogs while walking our dog Charlie. It was a scary situation for all 3 of us. Charlie went from being a very happy-go-lucky pup, to a scared, reactive dog. Before the attack, we would regularly see neighborhood dogs who she would happily greet and play with. After the attack, she now suddenly growled and barked at them. After reading book after book and going to other training classes, we thankfully found Vera. Vera’s Rowdy Rovers class was exactly what Charlie needed (and what we needed!).”
– Matt & Farrah Brighton
“I can’t recommend Vera and her classes enough! I previously enrolled Otis in 3 other local puppy socialization classes to help overcome his shyness with other dogs. Strangely enough, Otis had little fear with dogs outside those classes, but once there he’d shut down and hardly venture beyond my feet. I didn’t know what to think. Those classes took place in very large spaces with anywhere from 8 to 20 dogs at a time, so most of the time Otis would retreat to the emptier parts of the room, while the trainers were too busy to work with Otis’ peculiar dog shyness. Well, not Vera! Vera teaches her classes in a small space with no more than 8 dogs at a time, As a result, Otis was not overwhelmed by large, raucous pack of puppies, had closer interaction with other dogs in the smaller space and received more direct guidance from Vera. In no time with Vera’s help, Otis’ confidence grew and his dog shyness has practically disappeared.”
