Testimonials

Working with Carolyn to train our Corgi, Tex, was hands down one of the best decisions we’ve ever made—not just for Tex, but for the future of our family. With a baby on the way in May, we knew we wanted to make sure Tex was ready for the big changes ahead, and Carolyn helped us do exactly that.
Carolyn was patient, professional, and incredibly kind—not just with Tex, but with us, too! She took the time to understand our concerns and gave us practical, personalized tools to work with. The progress we’ve seen in Tex is honestly amazing—he’s calmer, more responsive, and ready to be the best big brother ever.
Carolyn didn’t just help us train our dog—she gave us peace of mind. We’re so grateful for her guidance and expertise, and we couldn’t recommend her more highly to anyone looking to set their dog (and their family!) up for success.
Thank you, Carolyn!
– The Best Decision We’ve Ever Made! Family

The Developing Canine changed my life. Carolyn worked with me and Teddy, my giant pitbull/bulldog baby, from the time he was 8 months old until he was 10 months old. In just 10 weeks, my relationship with him TRANSFORMED. He went from completely unmanageable, wild, and impossible to keep indoors, to being a responsive, engaged, non-reactive, joyful presence in our home.
Carolyn’s teaching changed Teddy, but more importantly, it changed ME. I feel equipped to handle Teddy—and any other dogs in our family—now or in the future. Cannot recommend The Developing Canine enough!
– Teddy’s Owner

We adopted our pup in March of 2023 from her previous owner. We were warned that she was fence reactive and she had never been on leash before. We quickly realized we needed help when she constantly pulled while on leash, was very reactive to other animals while on leash, and had a very strong and high prey drive.
She has blossomed into a confident and well mannered pup. She listens extremely well and is more neutral than reactive. We continue to work with our pup daily as it is a work in progress. We couldn’t have gotten where we are now without Carolyn’s guidance and expertise!

About the Trainer

The Developing Canine, founded by Carolyn Weinbaum in 1996, is a professional dog training business serving Columbus, Georgia, and surrounding areas. Carolyn has been training animals since 1984, beginning with marine mammals at the Miami Seaquarium and Audubon Institute, and later applying those techniques to dogs. The business specializes in off-leash reliability and building strong, trust-based relationships between dogs and their owners. Services include puppy consultations, a foundational “Best Dog Ever” program, off-leash polishing classes, group socials, adventure outings like hiking and paddle boarding, and online coaching. Training focuses on real-world reliability, behavior modification, and lifelong skills, with an emphasis on communication, confidence-building, and consistent reinforcement. Carolyn’s methods blend marine mammal training principles with modern dog training, creating a unique, effective approach that transforms both dog behavior and owner confidence.

The business offers structured, progressive programs that start with puppy foundations and advance to high-level off-leash control. Clients receive personalized guidance, ongoing support, and access to a community of like-minded dog owners through group walks and socials. Training is conducted by appointment only, with options for in-person and online coaching to fit diverse lifestyles. The Developing Canine does not offer boarding, grooming, or pet retail services, focusing exclusively on training and behavior.

Carolyn’s expertise is backed by decades of experience, professional certifications, and membership in the International Association of Canine Professionals since 1999. Her clients report dramatic improvements in behavior, recall, socialization, and home harmony, with many describing her as transformative for both dog and owner.
