Testimonials
We’ve boarded our Great Dane, Willow, with Matt several times, and we couldn’t be happier with the care she receives. We really appreciate that Matt keeps the dogs in kennels inside his home, so they’re comfortable, safe, and part of his daily routine rather than isolated in a separate facility.
Willow is always happy and relaxed when she’s there, and it’s clear she enjoys her time with him. Beyond boarding, Matt has helped us reinforce her training and even taught her new skills we struggled with on our own, like confidently loading into the back of our SUV!
Matt communicates well, is reliable, and sends helpful video updates so we can see how Willow is doing while we’re away. We highly recommend Matt as a trusted, knowledgeable, and caring boarder and trainer.
Matt is so great! Our puppy Chicken always looked so happy in all the update videos and pictures Matt would send us. He is much calmer and we’ve seen such a positive change in his behavior. We loved that the training was done in Matt’s home and around his family as Chicken is going to be our family pup! It was so nice that Matt would take him out on walks and in stores for training to help socialize him and get him used to listening in more distracted environments. Would definitely recommend
We are so grateful for the opportunity to have our 10 month old Rottie pup trained by Hill Country Dog Trainer. Theo (our Rottie) was safe, well cared for and loved on during his 21 day board and train session. Matt took his time with Theo and it shows. The training we received on pick up day has helped me be consistent and confident as I continue the routine and implement the methods here at home. Matt is easy going and available to answer all my questions as they come up. I highly recommend Hill Country Dog Trainer, it’s hard to say see ya later to your pup for three weeks, but the results and the reunion are well worth the wait and the investment.
About the Trainer
The Hill Country Dog Trainer is a personal dog training business run by Matt Elledge, a veteran, father, and husband who offers customized training programs to help dog owners build strong, loving bonds with their pets. Matt provides hands-on training through his signature Board & Train program, where dogs live with him for 21 days to learn obedience, manners, and behavior modification in real-world settings like stores, parks, and homes with children and other dogs. He also offers We Train With You (in-person sessions), Puppy Training, and Travel Boarding for graduates. His approach focuses on building confidence, impulse control, and lifelong obedience using real-life exposure. Matt personally trains every dog—no franchise or staff—and provides ongoing support after training completion, including video updates and follow-up lessons. He also sells dog training products and gift cards through his shop.
Matt’s training emphasizes the “Big 5” obedience commands: Sit, Down, Recall, Heel, and Leave It, along with addressing issues like separation anxiety, leash reactivity, destructive behavior, jumping, biting, and resource guarding. Dogs are trained in his home environment, not a facility, and are integrated into his daily life for socialization and confidence-building. He serves clients across Austin, Waco, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and beyond.
Additional services include concierge-style travel boarding for dogs who have completed his Board & Train program, offering a “tune-up” in a familiar setting with trusted people and dogs.
Accomplishments
Matt Elledge was trained by James Hamm, a renowned dog trainer, and has successfully transformed dogs with severe behavioral issues including separation anxiety, aggression, and destructive habits. He has trained dogs to be calm in high-distraction environments and has received numerous testimonials praising his results and care.
