Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Balanced Training
Equipment:
- ✓ E-Collars
The K9 Coach Carolinas focuses on behavior modification and holistic wellness, addressing issues like aggression, anxiety, trauma, fear, and leash reactivity. All behavior programs begin with a comprehensive assessment and consultation, which is an active working session that evaluates the dog’s history, current state of mind, and the owner’s leadership skills, communication, and goals. This assessment also includes a deep dive into nutrition and wellness, and family dynamics.
Private training clients are expected to conduct two 15-30 minute training sessions daily throughout their program and for two weeks afterward. All packages include in-home lessons, public outing distraction proofing, a nutrition and natural wellness consultation, and access to a private client forum. The holistic approach integrates nutrition, detox protocols, natural options, essential oils, homeopathy, Reiki, Emotional Release, and Animal Communications.
Specific programs include:
* **Board and Train**: A 2-week immersive program where the dog resides with the trainer, mastering lifestyle behaviors and fundamental skills like sit/stay, down/stay, coming when called, polite leash walking, and boundary setting. It includes a 2-hour go-home session and three 90-minute follow-up skills lessons for the owner.
* **Immersion Training**: An alternative to Board and Train, offering private workshops for a day, weekend, or week, tailored to the client’s home or at their North Myrtle Beach location. This program emphasizes owner involvement in the training process.
* **Obedience Dog Training**: For dogs older than 20 weeks, focusing on manners and listening skills. It covers basic commands (sit/stay, down/stay, come when called, place, walk well on leash, leave-it, out, watch me), good greeting skills, waiting at doors, and social manners. Initial lessons are held at The K9 Coach location, with later sessions moving to public outings or in-home for proofing.
* **Off Leash Dog Training**: An advanced program for dogs with solid basic obedience, aiming for reliable recall and obedience at a distance under distractions. It can be an add-on to basic obedience or a stand-alone program, often requiring an e-collar.
* **Leash Reactivity Training**: Addresses lunging, barking, and pulling on walks. It can be resolved through a single consultation or a full obedience program, focusing on identifying the root cause (fear, anxiety, over-excitement, or aggressive intent) and teaching techniques for confident leadership.
* **Puppy Training Program**: Designed for puppies aged 8-12 weeks, to be completed by 16-18 weeks. It covers house training, crate training, basic manners (sit, down, come, leave it, place), proper rewarding, walking support, boundary training, and extensive socialization. The program also includes health and safety guidance on nutrition, safe toys, enrichment, natural flea/tick prevention, vaccine education, and surgical preparedness/aftercare. It is held at The K9 Coach location, with an online option available.
* **Service Dog Public Access**: Focuses on obedience, social outings, greetings, and public access training in various environments like elevators, malls, restaurants, and doctor’s offices, also preparing for travel.
