Training programs are available for both retrievers and pointing dogs, tailored to each dog and owner’s goals. Retriever training includes basic obedience (SIT, HERE, HEEL, KENNEL, place training), Force Fetch (HOLD, GIVE, FETCH), and E-Collar Conditioning.
Pointer training includes basic obedience (WHOA, HERE, HEEL, KENNEL, place training), Whoa Training using a WHOA post, Force Fetch (HOLD, GIVE, FETCH), and E-Collar Conditioning. E-collars are used for reinforcement of understood commands, not for teaching.

Pricing Summary
Boarding fee is $30.00 per day. Training fee is $25.00 per day.
About the Trainer
The Little River Kennel offers specialized training and boarding services for retrievers and pointing breeds, led by Joe Nowakowski. Joe brings over 25 years of experience, having campaigned dogs in field trials, AKC hunt tests, and competed multiple years at the Master National event for retrievers.
He manages shooting preserve operations and has year-round access to training grounds and birds, providing a unique advantage for gun dog training. Programs are tailored specifically to each dog, their owners’ goals, and the type of hunting.
Accomplishments
Joe Nowakowski has over 25 years of experience with retrievers and pointing breeds. He has campaigned dogs in field trials, AKC hunt tests, and competed multiple years at the Master National event for retrievers. He has trained and titled Junior, Senior, and Master level retrievers in AKC Hunt Tests.
Joe has trained with top Professional Retriever trainers from all over the country, including Mike Lardy and Dave Rorem seminars. He holds a BS in Agricultural Business from Montana State University.
