About the Trainer

The Lodge at Andover Dog Training Center is a premier dog boarding and training facility in Augusta, KS, founded and operated by Scott Sexton, a retired U.S. Army Sergeant and former Combat Engineer K9 Handler with over 20 years of hands-on dog training experience. The facility offers private cabin boarding with live cameras, fenced yards, and doggie doors for comfort and safety, alongside personalized training programs including board & train, day school, and one-on-one lessons. Training methods are balanced, utilizing all four quadrants of operant conditioning, including prong collars and e-collars from trusted brands like Garmin and Educator Technologies. Programs range from two-week on-leash training to six-week advanced programs, with emphasis on real-world obedience, recall reliability, house manners, and behavior modification. Additional services include professional dog grooming with tailored options like basic hygiene, blow-outs, haircuts, shedding treatments, and problem-skin care. The business also offers financing options and serves dogs of all ages with a focus on transforming wild pups into well-mannered companions.

Scott’s background includes training elite military K9s to detect roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he now applies that same discipline and compassion to civilian dogs and their owners. The facility limits intake to only two dogs at a time in its premium programs to ensure individualized attention. Dogs participate in group play, treadmill runs, frozen fruit treats, and spa days before returning home. Owners receive daily progress updates and photos throughout training.

ADTC also offers specialized programs for aggressive dogs, puppy socialization (Star Puppy), and behavior modification for issues like separation anxiety, reactivity, and resource guarding. Grooming services are designed to avoid unnecessary charges, allowing owners to select only the services their dog needs, such as sanitary trims, facial scrubs, and conditioning treatments.

Accomplishments

Scott Sexton is a retired U.S. Army Sergeant and former Combat Engineer K9 Handler with over 20 years of experience training elite military dogs to detect roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan. He survived four major explosions during deployment and now applies his expertise to civilian dog training.
