Testimonials

“I had a great experience working with Jerry for a crash course with my foster dog. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and cordial throughout the session. He even brought his own dog to help test whether my foster was dog-friendly, which was very helpful and reassuring. The one-hour session was not only informative for me, but my foster dog also really enjoyed it! I left feeling more confident and better equipped to support my foster’s needs. Highly recommend!”

“I cannot say enough good things about Jerry, The Nature Coast Dog Trainer. He has a gift for working with dogs. I am a softie that had a chihuahua with no manners. Other trainers outright declined taking us on saying, ‘Chihuahuas are notoriously difficult,’ but Jerry knew what to do and turned Buddy and I into a great pair. In 5 sessions we successfully trained on basic items like sit, down, place, stay and very challenging items like reactivity and taking chips from me (an issue we had!). We don’t have those issues now, Buddy learned quickly and is better in so many ways. I am so grateful Jerry helped us learn together.”

“We loved the reviews on Jerry Walker. But he was already booked until early 2026 because he takes only one dog at a time. Luckily, he had a cancellation to do one on one, once-a-week training. Before we fully realized he was not a cuddly little puppy, our dog had grown to over 80 lbs in 10 months. He was very smart, but very strong, rambunctious and out of control. Jerry spent much of the very first lesson teaching him to calm down and listen. Our dog was a quick study and Jerry was a wonderful and skilled teacher. We are delighted with the results of the training. And have arranged to take him back for residential training next year. Cannot recommend him enough.”

About the Trainer

The Nature Coast Dog Trainer is run by Jerry Walker, a nationally recognized competition obedience clinician with over a decade of experience training dogs. Jerry offers one-on-one private training, group classes (to be announced), and intensive board-and-train programs in his home. He specializes in high-energy dogs and small breeds, including Chihuahuas, and uses a balanced approach combining positive reinforcement with low-level e-collar stimulation, clickers, food rewards, and prong collars. His board-and-train programs include immersive training in a modern 3-bedroom home with a pool, daily structured sessions, pack walks, and public field trips to proof behaviors. Jerry trains only one dog at a time to ensure personalized attention and treats every dog as if it were his own. He also provides unlimited phone support and follow-up sessions to help owners transition their dogs back into home life.

Jerry is an active competitor in AKC obedience with multiple UD titles and winning scores using a non-traditional breed, the German Shorthaired Pointer. He has trained hundreds of dogs and is known for his attention to detail, transparency, and ethical training methods. His own dogs—a German Shorthaired Pointer and a 3.5 lb Chihuahua—demonstrate the high level of training he achieves. He emphasizes mutual respect, empowering dogs to make correct choices, and building confidence through consistent, clear communication.

Jerry is not a novice trainer; he has attended seminars with top AKC obedience presenters and has been recommended by other professionals in the field. He does not offer grooming, boarding, or walking services outside of his training programs, but his board-and-train includes full-time care and supervision in his home.
