Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Balanced Training
The **Behavioral Assessment** is a 4-6 hour session where a trainer builds a relationship with your dog, observes individual behaviors, and evaluates reactions to other dogs, humans, and stimuli. They assess current training status, including leash and command responsiveness, reactivity, heeling, engagement, and impulsiveness. At the conclusion, the trainer discusses evaluation results, answers questions, and recommends a training game plan.
**Board & Train Programs** involve your dog staying at the facility for daily tailored lessons focused on your training goals, utilizing a balanced approach with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. Programs are comprehensive, covering basic obedience, monitored socialization, distraction desensitization, and behavior modification. Daily training reports with video clips, pictures, and written summaries are sent to owners. New clients may require a 4-6 week minimum stay, depending on behaviors and goals.
**Regular Boarding** provides playtime, naptime, and training time, with daily report cards including pictures and a written summary. **Regular Daycare** allows dogs to roam, sniff, potty, play, socialize, and relax, with playmates carefully chosen and separated by temperament and play styles. **Structured Daycare** is designed for under-socialized or reactive dogs, offering individual yard time or highly controlled, supervised play sessions with a trainer present; this service is typically reserved for dogs who have completed the Board & Train program.
**Daycare Training** combines regular or structured daycare with one-on-one training sessions, providing owners with videos and a written report from their trainer. This option is ideal for brushing up on behaviors post-Board & Train or for an enhanced daycare experience. **Private Training Options**, available virtually or in-person at The Ranch, are one-hour sessions tailored to specific training goals.

Policies
For assessments and daycare, there is no charge for cancellations, but clients are asked to be mindful of reservations and limit excessive cancellations. For boarding and Board & Train reservations, a 20% deposit is required. This deposit is fully refundable with a cancellation notice of 10 days or more; however, for cancellations of 9 days or less, the deposit will be forfeited and cannot be applied to future reservations.
Minimum requirements for all services include: no severe separation anxiety (private training is recommended for severe cases), freedom from injuries and illnesses, ongoing flea and tick prevention, and female dogs 6+ months must be spayed. Proof of all required vaccinations, including an up-to-date rabies vaccine for Board & Train, is mandatory.
As a 2023 update, due to viral outbreaks in the West LA area, dogs visiting other high-traffic locations (dog parks/beaches, daycare/boarding facilities) are asked to isolate for at least 2 weeks before joining The Ranch. Clients are also requested to cancel or postpone reservations if their dog displays symptoms of kennel cough.

How to Get Started!
All new clients are required to complete a behavioral assessment. This assessment typically takes 4-6 hours and involves a trainer building a relationship with your dog, observing their behaviors, and evaluating their reactions to various stimuli.
The trainer will also assess your dog’s current training status, including leash and command responsiveness. At the conclusion of the assessment, the trainer will discuss the evaluation results, answer questions, and recommend a training game plan that fits your needs. An assessment is a prerequisite for approval for any Board & Train, daycare, or boarding service. If your dog has severe separation anxiety, private training sessions are recommended as an initial step instead of the assessment.
