The Right Steps offers group classes including “Surviving Puppyhood” (for puppies 8-16 weeks), “Surviving Adolescence” (for dogs 4 months and older), and “Adult Dog Back to Basics Classes” (for dogs 4 months and older). These are 6-week programs, starting with a human-only lecture in Week 1, followed by 5 weeks of hands-on training with dogs. Class sizes are kept small, typically 2-6 puppies/dogs maximum.

They also provide “Advanced Classes” for graduates of their basic training programs, structured in levels (Level 1 & 2 at the facility, Level 3 as field trips) to proof basic training and focus around distractions. K9 Nose Work classes are available for all levels, from Introduction to Odor, and are open to both new and existing clients, including reactive dogs with specific safety protocols. Additionally, private training, day training, and phone consultations are offered. All training utilizes positive reinforcement, starting with hand signals before adding verbal cues, and emphasizes real-world application of learned behaviors.

Testimonials

“Cindy is a knowledgeable and experienced trainer. She is well versed in the most up-to-date dog training techniques. Her clear and organized approach to teaching helped me develop a solid training foundation with my dog. But perhaps it was Cindy’s patience and obvious love of dogs that most helped me to build a deeper understanding of how to bring out the best in my girl.”
– Melanie, Jenna’s mom

“Cindy Smith and The Right Steps have been invaluable in training our Dalmatian, Poppy, from puppyhood to the advanced skills courses. Recently, when Poppy chased after a deer, Cindy’s emergency recall training saved the day as Poppy swiftly returned on command, preventing a potentially dangerous situation. Cindy’s classes ensured Poppy’s safety, and we’re immensely grateful for her exceptional training. The Right Steps isn’t just about teaching tricks; it’s a lifesaver for our furry family members. Thank you, Cindy!”
– Kristen & Rob S. & Poppy

“I showed up at Cindy’s class with an eight week old Rottweiler puppy and zero experience and I ended up with the BEST dog ever. I would recommend her training/advice/classes to anyone who wants to learn how to really enjoy having a dog.”
– Aimee D. (A.K.A. Torque’s human)
