Testimonials

Amazing results! Took our TWO 10 month old hyper, crazy (but still absolutely adorable) German Sheppard puppies for one week and brought back the best behaved dogs I have ever seen. 3 weeks after training they are still amazing and we couldn’t be happier! Their plan works and if you do your part, it lasts! Anyone with negative reviews most likely didn’t keep up the training. We have learned that Dogs think in always or never terms so as long as you stick with the rules and don’t get lazy you will be so happy with your dogs after their training! I promise! 🙂 No regrets! Money well spent!

Had my German Shepherd trained by Top Dog K9 Academy 2 years ago, and it was money well spent! They sent me photo updates and I really like the fact that he was kenneled indoors. The free follow up classes have been great at keeping up his skills. I would highly recommend to any one looking to having their dog trained!

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!! Had my Malinois trained 5 years ago she still is the the best dog ever! Had my German Shepherd trained a year ago she is magnificent, and I just got my miniature Australian Shepherd back 3 days ago and I could not be happier! All the people saying they had a bad experience is fake because they don’t make you pay if you aren’t happy… So why did you pay if you aren’t satisfied?

Not happy at all the trainer that picked up our dog called a week early said she is ready to come home. We scheduled a time for her to come home and we spent a hour or two for the trainer to help us learn the commands. First he brought her in her kennel in the back of the truck no blanket it was 30 degrees standing still. She was freezing. Then he puts her on the grass she can’t even stand up she was starving. Looked like she hadn’t eaten nothing since she left. I will admit I really didn’t listen to the guy I was done at that point. If you think starving a animal to the point it can’t stand up is training it these people are for you. I for Obvious reasons requested my money back because they say it’s guaranteed. Ghosted me from that min forward. I don’t know what guarantee means but it definitely does not means you get your money back. Was a lie I should of filed charges when I seen my dog.

I’ve finally collected my thoughts enough to write this review. I had high hopes for this program especially with the reassurances of the owner of the company. I was assured that they use gentle leash corrections when training and if necessary would use a cat collar but they used her regular collar for training. When I got my yorkie back she looked to me a bit terrified of the individual who trained her Jose. She listed to the command and that’s great and all but she looked submissive like she was very scared. This was very disheartening. Additionally, during the handover and she did something wrong the collar corrections in my opinion seemed way too harsh for an 8 lb dog. When entering the house we wanted to see the reaction between our German Shepherd and our yorkie and let him in. The German Shepherd came over to our yorkie and Jose her trainer pulled her up by her leash and held her there. I being very upset said stop it, stop it. He put her down and I asked if he did that during training or if that was just to get her out of the way from Zeus. He said it was the second. I did message the owner and ask if this was done during her training as well and he said, “No, he did not have to that in training. She did not give him any problems during training. The reason she did it there is more than likely the distraction of the other dog was higher than anything we could duplicate in training.” THIS gave me the indication that holding dogs by their leashes and effectively hanging them was a practice that they used. After cooling off from how upset I was I decided to give a chance to the follow up class the next day. The harsh corrections they wanted done continued but I had transferred her to an ecollar. Upon seeing her trainer she looked scared, yet again. Then I overheard one of the trainers talking about how they had to hold a dog by their leash and collar because of something aggressive they did which solidified my fears. I talked to two individual references given to me by the owner and they had nothing but good things to say so I went ahead with using them. But upon pebbles handover I realized I abhor the training practices I’ve seen and heard to be used by them and would not recommend them. I truly wish I was not the one who had to write this review but if it will save someone from this experience it is worth it.

About the Trainer

Top Dog K9 Academy is a dog training business that offers intensive board-and-train programs, with trainers working with dogs at their facility. Clients report significant improvements in behavior, especially with high-energy breeds like German Shepherds, Malinois, and Australian Shepherds. The business emphasizes long-term results, offering free follow-up classes to reinforce training. They claim a satisfaction guarantee and provide photo updates during training. Some clients highlight indoor kenneling and consistent results lasting years. However, one customer reported severe concerns about training methods, including physical corrections, leash-hanging, and apparent neglect during drop-off, including a dog being returned cold and emaciated. The owner responded to complaints by denying use of harsh methods during training, attributing incidents to distraction during handover.

The business trains dogs of various sizes and ages, with testimonials mentioning success with puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs. They focus on obedience, behavior modification, and recall, and offer training for multiple breeds including herding and working dogs.

Despite positive reviews, there are serious allegations of inhumane practices, including use of harsh collar corrections on small dogs, leash-hanging, and failure to honor refund guarantees. One client reported being ghosted after requesting a refund.

The business appears to operate primarily through a facility-based intensive program, with follow-up sessions offered to owners.

Note: Multiple reviews conflict on training ethics — some praise results, others describe abuse.

The company claims to use a guarantee policy, but customer experiences with refunds vary significantly.

How to Get Started!

Prospective clients appear to engage by scheduling a board-and-train program. Dogs are picked up and trained at the facility. Owners receive updates during training and attend a handover session upon return to learn commands. Follow-up classes are offered at no additional cost.
