Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Topline K9 Services offers a wide range of services including obedience training, behavior modification, social and environmental training, protection training, swimming, agility, group classes, and private sessions. They also provide boarding services.

Boot Camp is an intensive program designed for obedience, socialization, and behavior modification, lasting a minimum of three weeks. It includes daily training, bonding, decompression, and adaptation to new routines. Family visits are encouraged during the second and third weeks, and the program concludes with the trainer bringing the dog home to facilitate the transfer of newly learned skills to the owner in their home environment. The Boot Camp program includes three free Saturday class participations and free for life follow-up on the behaviors addressed.

Group classes are held on Saturday mornings, from 8am-11am during summer months and 9am-12am during winter months. Classes begin with 30-40 minutes of socialization, followed by obedience and obedience with distractions training, and then either agility or protection training, depending on the needs of the attending dogs. Typical class sizes range between 5-10 participating dogs, with trainers aiming to provide individual support. Additional training opportunities include swimming in their pool during warm months, group hikes in the cooler months, and off-site classes at various public locations such as local parks, pet stores, and malls. An initial free evaluation of the dog is required before its first class appearance.

Pricing & Policies

Pricing Summary

Boarding is $100/night/dog, with a 50% discount for a second dog sharing a larger kennel. Group classes are $40/dog per Saturday. Boot Camp rates are customized based on the dog’s needs and training goals, discussed during a free assessment. Swimming lessons incur an extra charge.

Policies

For boarding and group classes, dogs must be healthy, present a recent negative parasite result, be up to date on shots including rabies (titer tests are accepted), and be protected against ticks and fleas. Group classes may be canceled or shortened in the event of extreme heat. No advanced reservation is needed for group classes, but clients are requested to notify the business of their planned participation.

Testimonials

“…She absolutely loves coming there and actually runs away from me when I come to pick her up as she wants to stay and play with all her friends. I know she gets all the love and attention at your facility as she does at home, and that makes me feel good about leaving her. She comes home totally worn out from playing, and I love getting the pictures and videos throughout the day to see what shes doing…”
– Michele Yeslinek, Mia’s owner

“…Illya and Johanna are very responsible, and always put the dogs’ needs before their own. When I had to go to Europe for six months, I had no worries leaving Libra with them. She loves them!”
– Zita Peledaite, Libra’s owner

“I took my 4 year old German Shepherd one session leash training. Changed my life. Took her on walk next morning, used the tools I was taught… NO PULLING AT ALL! I walked her for the 1st time in 4 years instead of her walking me! No yelling, pulling, getting upset, simple correction a few times, she was more alert and looked happier too! THANK YOU!!!”
– Joyce Ann, Owner

About the Trainer

Topline K9 Services is a family-owned business focused on dogs, led by Illya and Johanna. Both have a lifelong passion for dogs and extensive experience; Illya has trained professionally worldwide, and Johanna grew up visiting a Rottweiler kennel and has trained and shown her own Rottweilers. They established their training and boarding facility on a 15-acre property in Lake Mathews, Southern California.

The business offers a wide range of services including obedience training, behavior modification, social and environmental training, protection training, swimming, agility, group classes, private sessions, and boarding. Their goal is to enhance the relationship between owners and their dogs, fostering a stronger bond and clearer understanding of roles within the family. They conduct in-depth discussions about behavioral and social goals, followed by an assessment to create a suitable program.

For boarding, they encourage pre-stay visits and provide daily updates via texts, pictures, and videos. They also offer a pick-up service. They aim for dogs to feel so comfortable that they are reluctant to leave, and they provide owners with the tools and guidance to become effective leaders for their dogs.

Accomplishments

Illya and Johanna possess a lifelong passion for dogs and many years of extensive dog experience. Illya has worked and trained professionally with dogs all over the world. Johanna grew up visiting a Rottweiler kennel in Finland and has continued her passion for training, working, and showing her own Rottweilers. Illya has shown dogs in competitions, with one dog needing two more points to be listed as a champion.

How to Get Started!

To begin, clients can call for a free assessment and consultation for their dog. For boarding, a meet and greet visit is recommended, allowing the owner and dog to meet the team and pack, tour the facility, and discuss the dog’s specific needs and routines. For group classes, an initial free evaluation of the dog is required before its first class appearance. Paperwork for boarding can be filled out upon arrival or emailed in advance upon request.
