Dog Training Methodology

  • Balanced Training

Equipment:

  • Flat Collars

Transform My Dog offers several training programs designed to help owners and their dogs get on the same page. The “6 Easy Exercises to an Easier Dog” program is available in two formats: Group Class and Private Dog Training, both lasting 5 weeks.

The Group Class begins with an orientation day for the dog at the facility, focusing on socialization and leash introduction, and a video orientation for owners to watch at home. This is followed by four weeks of 45-minute in-person group classes where owners learn exercises to practice at home.

The Private Dog Training program starts with an immersive full day for the dog with trainers, serving as the first of five private lessons. Owners receive personalized videos of their dog’s progress. The subsequent four weeks involve weekly private sessions with a dedicated trainer, focusing on customized exercises for recall, leash walking, calmness, basic commands (sit, stay), and specific behavior concerns.

For more intensive training, they offer “10 Day Turnaround” and “15 Day Extended Stay” programs, available as either Board and Train (overnight and weekend sleepovers) or Day Training (no overnights). The 10-day program focuses on leash walking, calmness in busy situations, ‘place’ command, and social skills, concluding with a pick-up lesson, a week of home practice, and a follow-up session. The 15-day program builds on the 10-day curriculum, adding obedience commands like sit, stay, and come when called, and includes training in various off-site environments such as parks and dog-friendly stores.

About the Trainer

Transform My Dog is a dog training business led by Jason and Liz Vasconi, offering comprehensive training, boarding, and playschool services. Their unique philosophy centers on teaching dogs to be calm, believing that a calm dog is better equipped to make good decisions and is the foundation for all training. They aim to help owners teach their dogs to self-soothe and achieve a state of calmness, leading to improved behavior like coming when called and walking nicely on a leash.

With over 37 years of experience in pet care and dog training by Jason, and 15 years of Transform My Dog being open, they emphasize their extensive experience. The business operates from a state-of-the-art training center designed for a stress-free environment, featuring 24/7 camera feeds, fire/burglar/CO2 alarms, climate-controlled Mason Kennels, and specialized playschool rooms with recycled rubber flooring and FRP walls for safety and cleanliness.

Amenities include huge, 80% covered outdoor pea gravel potty yards with drainage systems, and a separate customer potty yard. They provide supervised playgroups, separating dogs by age and size, with dedicated teachers for socially awkward dogs. Jason and Liz also travel globally to teach other dog trainers their methods of socialization and training.

Accomplishments

Jason Vasconi has over 37 years of experience helping people with their dogs, traveling across the U.S., Canada, Spain, Ireland, and Australia to teach other dog trainers. He has been a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) for 21 years, served on its board of directors from 2017-2019, and was inducted into the IACP Dog Trainer’s Hall of Fame in 2024. Jason is also a published author with articles in Pet Talk magazine and the IACP Safe Hands Journal, and competes in sheep herding trials with his dog Squeeze.

Liz Vasconi is a professional member of the IACP and has volunteered for the association for 10 years. She won “Member of The Year” in 2017, the “Top Dog” award in 2014, and the conference poster contest in 2017, also being awarded conference ambassador in 2017. Liz has titled her dog in AKC sheep herding trials, earning prestigious awards like “High In Trial” and 1st place. Both Jason and Liz travel globally teaching their methods of socializing and training dogs.

How to Get Started!

To get started, clients are encouraged to call for more information or fill out an online questionnaire. The questionnaire gathers detailed information about the dog, including name, sex, breed, age, weight, color, spay/neuter status, where obtained, how long owned, other household pets, and medical history (vet clinic, medications, allergies, past problems). It also asks about training expectations, past training experience, crate training, off-leash behavior with other dogs, reactions to strangers, sensitivity to loud noises or touch, possessiveness, and bite history. Tours of the facility are available by appointment only.
