Classes are 7 weeks long, one hour each. They offer a wide range of courses from STAR Puppy for young dogs (10 weeks to under 12 months) to advanced competition classes like Competition Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tricks, Scent Work, Carting, and Conformation. Beginners Obedience 101 is for dogs 6 months and older or those who completed STAR Puppy, focusing on basic skills and manners. Many classes have prerequisites, and some advanced classes are by invitation or require instructor approval. Orientation is often the first class without dogs.

Pricing Summary

Each class is 7 weeks long. Fees are paid upon registration for the course. The regular price for a first-time dog and handler team is $150. For any repetition of a course with the same handler/dog team, the fee is $120. Senior handlers (over 60 years old) or veterans of the United States Armed Services pay $120. Junior handlers (4-H or certified AKC Junior handler) pay $35 and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Payment is online with a credit card, and class registration is only available in the weeks leading up to the start of a class session.

Policies

Participants must agree to Terms and Conditions, including a Liability Waiver, when registering. Proof of dog’s vaccinations/titers is required at the first class; puppies need 2 Distemper/Parvo-virus vaccines, and dogs over 6 months also need Rabies. Dogs in HEAT are NEVER allowed in Star Puppy or Beginners 101/102 classes, but may be allowed in advanced classes with appropriate panties and prior instructor approval. Online registration closes on specific dates.

Truckee Meadows Dog Training Club is an American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned Obedience Club formed in 1971. They are a not-for-profit corporation. Instructors have extensive experience and titles in various dog sports, including AKC Championships, Rally Excellence titles, Barn Hunt Championships, and various CGC, Trick Dog, and Therapy Dog titles. Several instructors are AKC evaluators or judges for various programs.

How to Get Started!

To get started, dog owners are encouraged to enroll their new puppy in STAR Puppy Class or their adult dog in Beginning Obedience Class. The first class for some courses, like Beginners Obedience 101 and Scent Work 101, is an orientation where dogs are not brought. Registration and payment are done online with a credit card. It is recommended to check the website announcements and Facebook for registration dates. Proof of vaccinations is required by the first class.
