About the Trainer

Tucson K-9 Learning Center is a dog training facility located on a 5-acre ranch in Southwest Tucson, offering comprehensive training programs under one roof. They provide basic obedience, advanced obedience, puppy development, service dog training, therapy dog training, protection dog training, scent detection, and rattlesnake avoidance training. Their method is based on military-style training from Lackland Air Force Base, using physical and verbal praise as rewards—no treats, clickers, or e-collars. They train a maximum of 8 dogs at a time in a climate-controlled, camera-monitored kennel with supervised play sessions. All training is conducted by certified professional trainer Steve Reaves, who has been training dogs since 1964.

They offer a 2-week board-and-train program for basic obedience, which includes three private instruction sessions after pick-up and rattlesnake avoidance training. Their programs are intensive and facility-based, with daily training sessions from 6 am to 9 pm, and each dog receives 20 minutes of training per hour. They also provide behavior modification and aggression therapy as part of their basic obedience package.

Additional services include scent detection for narcotics and explosives, tracking and trailing, soft-mouth retrieval, and utility work. All dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations, and aggressive dogs incur an extra fee. They serve dog owners in Tucson and surrounding areas.

Steve Reaves is a Certified Master Dog Trainer, graduate of the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers, and a registered veterinary technician. He is also licensed by the Arizona Department of Game and Fish as a Wildlife Service Provider.
