Up A Level K9 offers several programs. The “21 Day Foundations Program” focuses on teaching owners to understand their dog’s state of mind and covers skills like Sit, Down, Here Recall, Out, Climb, Heel, on-leash and off-leash training, and non-aggressive behavior overhaul (e.g., jumping, barking, leash pulling, counter surfing).

The “5-Week+ Behavior Modification and/or Advanced Training” program aims for greater mastery of basic commands, off-leash manners, and reduced negative behaviors such as reactivity, anxiety, fear, prey-drive, and fighting, utilizing e-collar training.

“Puppy Imprinting” is for puppies under 15 weeks, teaching potty training, crate training, luring, marking, free shaping, timing, motivation, and consistency principles through two private lessons, a daily schedule outline, and video homework feedback.

A “Puppy Consultation” service helps families choose the right puppy by assessing lifestyle, exploring breed options, navigating rescues, and providing tools to prevent re-homing. They also offer a “Forever Home Promotion” to help rehome dogs by featuring them on their website and social media, and through text blasts to clients.

“Live with The Trainer” and “Day Care and Boarding Services” are available on a limited basis for graduates.

About the Trainer

Up A Level K9 is a dog training business founded in 2015 by Karen Wannemaker, a former Critical Care Nurse, who combined her passion for helping people and dogs. The business started in Anchorage, Alaska, and relocated to a 20-acre rural farm site in Door County, Wisconsin, in 2019, which they call “Dogville.”

Their mission is to teach owners and their dogs a clear and consistent language to foster a calm mindset and happy coexistence within the family. They offer training for various issues, from obedience and control to aggression.

The training facility is attached to the owner’s home and includes a fenced yard, a spring-fed creek, and private trails for daily walks. Dogs also go on outings for socialization and proofing commands in multiple settings throughout Door County and beyond. They emphasize building a lifelong relationship between owner and dog, providing a customized go-home and reintegration plan for each client. They also sell dog-related products like Biothane collars and leashes, apparel, and home goods.
